Adding a ghost ring sight to an 870

I have an older 870 Express that I am very fond of and have recently added a Safariland tacticle stock to. It has a standard front bead sight and while trying to shoot a shotgun side match at a local defensive pistol competition, I found that while I thought the Texas Star would be a piece of cake, well, not so much. I had enquired a few years ago about the cost of putting on Ghost Ring or other rifle style sights and was told I'd be better off to sell the 870 and buy one with the sights already on it. I really like the old 870 so I dont think I want to get rid of it.
What say you, spend the money for a set of sights or do as Clint Smith says and "learn to run the gun you got"?:confused:
 
Let me give you option 3:
Get a new barrel with rifle sights.
I added ghost ring tritium sights to my 870, and it would have been FAR more cost effective to just get a new barrel with rifle sights. I found the rifle sights on another 870 to be faster, for me, and just as accurate. For less than $120, you would have a rifle-sighted barrel AND your bead barrel, which you could sell for about $80, and recoup your cost.
It cost me $150 to buy and install the ghost rings.
 
Getting a barrel with factory rifle sights is probably the least expensive option overall, given that you can sell your existing bead-sighted barrel to get back part of the investment.

Right now a complete Vang GR sight job (front and rear, installed) is $439.00, which includes a matte black refinish on the 870 involved. http://www.shop.vangcomp.net/product.sc?productId=43&categoryId=7 That amount would buy a couple of brand new Remington factory rifle sighted barrels with change left over.

Be sure to get a smoothbore barrel - more and more rifle sighted barrels these days are rifled.

That would put one into aimpoint/RMR price range. I have shotguns with ghost rings and shotguns with RDS and for equal money, or anything even close to it, I'd rather have a quality RDS.

For the OPs purposes that might violate rules or push him into a different category (which its self is a testament to the efficacy of RDS).
