Compact Slide for 1911
I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I'm new to the 1911 arena. I was thinking it would be cool to have a full sized 1911 and then pick up the short (combat commander style) slide and barrel to put on the pistol. I don't know if this can be done and who would carry such parts.

I've been reading up on the Rock Island Armory pistols and they look like a good gun to start playing with to get a feel for the 1911. Decent reliability at low cost - a starter gun.

Tactical Slide for Glock 21
Another thought would be adding the tactical slide to a Glock 21. I have no clue if this is even possible.

Thanks

I don't think you can put a commander slide on a full size frame. IIRC, the dust cover has to be shortened for the commander slide, along with a few other mods.

It is possible to put a Commander slide on a Govt. size frame however you will need to re-time everything because of the differences in slide length travel will affect functionality. You need new guide rod, recoil springs and possibly different springs in the magazines as well. Then you'll need to tinker with it to make sure it feeds and operates.

While possible, you cannot simply change between slides and expect it to function. Every gunsmith I've heard and seen online is absolutely against doing this for a self-defense carry pistol. It will not be reliable.
