I would be ever so grateful if someone could advise as to the proper Leupold ring size for a Remington 700 Varmint (short action - .223) with the varmint/heavy contour 26" barrel.

The scope I am planning to use is a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20 X 40 with an adjustable objective (1" diameter scope...not the 30mm model).

The scope the rifle has now is a cheap one with cheap mounts, but it does appear to be mounted low (what I would like).

I plan to use the Leupold Standard Matte Rings on Leupold's standard two-piece base. The rings are available in Low, Medium, High, Super-Low, and Super-High. Which of these sizes would I use (for the lowest possible mounting)?

I would like to install the scope myself, but I have no real idea what rings to buy, and if I bought the wrong height, they would be hard for me to return.

Any experience/advice from those of you that are varmint or tactical rifle savvy would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Get the Leupold part#49901. These are the med. which will work great for that scope.
These are the standard 1" Medium Dovetail front with windage adj. rear. In Matte Finish..

Submoas;

Thank you very much. I was hoping the low rings would work, but the mediums should be fine. I will order those.

Thanks again.
