advice for conceled carry tools

I just found this site and now know I'm not alone in my thinking process!I've owned and hunted with long guns since I was a boy,but with a family now,and the increased crime in this country I think it's time to take an active role in my childrens protection.Having used both the .45 cal and 9mm in the army which would be the better choice for a good carry weapon?I'm also thinking of something for my wife as well (I'm not always around)
 
Get a comfortable holster. As far as the gun is concerned, handle as many different makes and models as possible. If you want your wife to shoot as well, make sure she is involved in the decision-making process.
 
Just what he said. Try as many as you can, get one that looks and feels good to you. An ugly gun will get left behind more often, effectively rendering it useless. As for 9/45...this is academic - what's important is where you put the holes, not the .09 inch (roughly) difference in diameter.
 
Whatever weapon you like best. Buy a duplicate and plenty of mags. You may want to carry the same weapon(s) as your wife which will reduce logistics.

A solid platform, good holster and belt, is the key to carrying a pistol well. Did not know that could be done in Nebraska??? :confused:
 
as a matter of fact nebraska does not issue carry permits but they do not prohibit it either,besides we will be moving to arizona in the near future and would like to be up to speed when we get there,thanks to all the advice,the search is on
 
I don't think you will go wrong with either caliber. I prefer a .45, but I would not feel ill-armed if I were packing my 9mm. Choose a platform/caliber combination that you (and your wife) shoot well, then practice practice practice. I believe training and situational awareness are more important than the specific firearm.
