After much research, I purchased a new Remington Model 870 Express Magnum (18") as an addition to my home defense arsenal.

Would like replace the front bead sight with a HI-VIZ sight (or similar fiber optic sight). I am not an expert on shotguns; I will not pretend that I am. Please advise me on how to remove the existing bead sight; and which fiber optic sight would be a good choice to purchase.

Also, wanted to state that before purchasing the shotgun I frequented this forum extensively for education purposes. I discovered this forum to be an excellent source for such knowledge, and am honored to have joined the forum as a new member.

Thanx in advance for your knowledge and opinions.

The bead on your 870 Express is pressed in, not threaded. My understanding is that they can be a bear to get out. Rather than buggering up the gun I would just take it to a smith and have them do it. It shouldn't cost much.

Check this tritium bead out. When I was planning on building up my 870 Express I was thinking one of these might work well on a home defense gun.

welcome to THR. i've also found this forum to contain a wealth of knowledge. if you're new to shotgunning, be sure and check out the "101" threads at the top, they're a must read for anyone just starting out.

Thanks...

Just read through everyone's replies to my question. Thanx to all for your input. I appreciate it.

Welcome aboard.

Before adding the kryptonite sights, invest $2 in a bottle of Testor's Bright Yelloe enamel at your freindly neighborhood hobby shoppe. Paint up that bead and see how it works for you in low light. If it does, use it or the K sights with confidence.
