I used to shoot on a pickup level in the 1960’s, and dropped out of shooting due to school, work, wife and kids, etc.

Getting back into it, and having a blast.

My question- what is “good shooting”??

What groupings at what distance would be good/average/not bad for

22 pistol
45 pistol
22 rifle
30-06 rifle

Just wondering what I should be working toward, and MAYBE at some point I could try some competition.

Thanks

"Good shooting" for any of those guns will completely depend on the game you're competing in.

The best advice I can possibly offer is this:

Don't be afraid to get involved with some form of competitive shooting. Every single game that I've competed in has a tiered structure so that newbies aren't competing directly against the best of the best.

So, look around. Find an interesting form of competition with matches held nearby, and go compete.

Don't say "MAYBE at some point I could try some competition."

Just do it.

Go to have fun and learn.

.22 caliber pistol: 15 yards-2-3 inches
.38 caliberand up: 15 yards 3-4 inches(with practice)
.22 rifle: one hole///just kidding!#*
30-06 100 yards: 1 1/2 - 2 inches
just an opinion/

I shoot USPSA and I love it. All shots in the Alpha (CM) are great shots. Misses are bad, no shoots (hostages) are worse.

Good shooting is being safe, having enough ammo, and enjoying yourself.
