I'm trying to winnow down my collection of safe queens.

I'd like to trade in some rifles and handguns in the next week or so and concentrate on three of my favorite long guns:

CZ 453 (scoped)
Bushmaster AR-15 carbine
Mossberg 590 A1 shotgun

I don't hunt, and I don't reload (bt I have a friend who does reload 223 and 308). I'm looking for something "fun" to shoot at my club's 100-yard range that a) I won't have to "master," b) won't break the bank, and c) is not SHTF-related. I tend to like short, lightweight carbines with good sights and triggers that don't need a lot of modifications or maintenance.

I'm considering trading in for a single-shot Winchester 1885 in .223 or .45-70. I'd have to scope the .223, and buy a Marble's tang sight for the .45-70. There are two NIBs nearby going for $900 each. The .45-70 has especialy nice wood; I think I could handload for it.

I'm also looking at a Springfield Scout Squad (I've had two full-sized M1A's in the past and sold them both), a Savage Mk II BV (I'd put a 36x BR scope on this), or maybe just a plain vanilla H&R/NEF single shot.

Any advice? or other suggestions?

Instead of a Bushmaster look into a Windham Weaponry AR. It's operated by the people that started Bushmaster, back when Bushmaster made good quality guns. Actually made in the same old factory. It's probably just one of the many other companies people will suggest over Bushmaster. But they make a very similar line of rifles, for a very similar price, and with better quality.:neener: indefinitely wouldn't criticize your decision on the 590, Mossberg makes dry reliable shotguns from my experience. They may not always be pretty but they work. I couldn't give you a good opinion on the other guns.

The CZ453 is a great rifle. They have one problem. They are very addictive, and don't like to be alone. I have 3 CZ452s and frequently have to keep myself from getting a 4th.

The way I read the OP's post, he already has the CZ 453, Bushmaster and Mossberg....

You might want to look into a Rossi 92 in .357 also.

Correct, I've already got the CZ, Bushmaster and Mossberg. I want to spend more time shooting them.

I'm looking for something "fun."

I'm leaning toward the 1885 High Walls...

How about one of the AR 22's? There are several on the market now. I have the Smith MP 15-22 and it is a hoot. Plus they are cheaper to shoot than any of the centerfires. Most of them have a sucky trigger but that can be cured.
