I just purchased a Ruger LCP in OD:D. It will mostly serve as a BUG since I usually carry a G26 or G19. What self defense ammo would you recommend? I was told the LCP can be picky with certain brands of JHP. As of right now I have not bought any other than ball(FMJ) for range use. Any advice is appreciated (especially from LCP owners). Thanks.

My LCP pretty much shoots anything. I can run Herter's, MFS, S&B, whatever and it always shoots.

Rugers are not ammo picky in my experience (I own 6 Rugers).

Now that being said, I have never shot any hollow pointed ammo in it before. I have loaded up mags with JHP and they all manually cycle. I don't see any potential issue.

Ha! Ha! I get a kick out of questions like this because just about every different kind of ammo out there will be recommended by someone.

If you want to match your pistol some of the Russian ammo comes on OD too.:)

I have had very good luck with the Speer Gold Dots in 90 gr. Put 4 boxes of them through my LCP with a hitch and it also shoots any brand FMJ's just as well. In over 300 rounds of mixed ammo I have not had one failure. Great little pistol!

I've tried about 15 different kinds of premium FMJ and HP ammo and everything has functioned 100% EXCEPT Cor-Bon JHP (not the DPX, that worked fine). That doesn't mean yours won't work with Cor-Bon JHP; it most likely will... it's good ammo by all accounts. Buy a box of a few different kinds and see what your gun likes. I'm alternating Remington 102 gr. JHPs and FMJs in mine right now.

Recommend bonded or heavy duty HP's like Winchester PDX1, Gold Dots, or ball ammo.

I have seen multiple LCP's (mine and those of friends I shoot with) run Hornady critical defense ammo with zero problems. I've run various FMJ rounds and all have run fine.

Now that being said, I have never shot any hollow pointed ammo in it before. I have loaded up mags with JHP and they all manually cycle. I don't see any potential issue.

In my experience with various firearms hand cycling is not always indicative of how the same firearm will actually function when fired.

I had my second ammo-specific malfunction ever yesterday with CCI blazer aluminum cased FMJ yesterday. I'm not sure if it was the ammo itself or the fact that I was alternating FMJ and HP ammo in the mag... in any case I don't think I'll do that anymore.

from what I've seen in various reports the Speer gold dot 90 gr load seems to work about as well as anything; think I'll stick with that for carry. I have had zero malfs with it.

Mine will feed corbon dpx and speer GD just fine... but always has problems with hydrashocks though.
