Seen a really nice Mossy 5500 last yr and to make a long story short I walked in with a 870 and walked out with the Mossy. The bolt didn't allways stay open but after a half box of shells the pin fell out that holds the shell stop. No problems worked fine after epoxing the pin back. Loaned it to my little brother who limited out on pheasants, and Quail everytime he went I don't think he ever missed with it. He wanted to buy it and so I had to shoot it one last time. Damn thing locked down, the action arm broke. bought one off ebay for 5 bucks that been cobbled together and a camming surface had been ground off. I welded the old part back but the crummy bolt hold open device is off time, sometimes catching and sometimes locking the gun down. Hindsight that may have been the orignal problem, my field stripping procedure might have broke it. Pheasant were running and flying all around and I was etc, etc.
Would you cut your losses and part it out 90percent bluing, and a really nice walnut stock. Or spend 150 bucks for parts on a gun thats worth maybe 200

I'd try to get my 870 back! Seriously I think I would cut my losses and get another, more reliable gun.
