looking for advice on the best 9mm or 40sw compact pistol ccw choice.

I'm looking for an exposed hammer, da/sa . Good sa trigger pull .
One other thing is I would like it to have a metal trigger.

It really seems like I'll never find this and I might have to settle for a glock or a SW mp.

the SA polymer guns don't seem bad, but I hear their trigger are terrible.

Well, if you want a hammer fired pistol, considering that S&W has discontinued commercial sales of their excellent 3913TSW/4013TSW/4040PD models, you might consider trying to find a Sig Sauer P239 to rent. They''re a bit thick in the grip for a single column compact, but they might suit your stated preferences to your satisfaction.

They're produced in both TDA (traditional double action, or DA/SA) and DAK (what they call their enhanced double action in the armorer class).

You might also consider trying to find a Walther P99 compact in their AS (Anti-Stress) configuration to try, though. It offers something akin to a DA/SA action and the triggers become pretty smooth and nice as they're used. Granted, they have plastic trigger assemblies.

I have a SW999c (9mm compact) licensed version in the standard AS-type design and it's trigger has become noticeably better than my favored 3913 over the years. I've also fired over 10,000 rounds through it, though ... (with some periodic spring replacements) ;) Very nice.

I tend to favor the 99 series when chambered in 9mm, though. I've used the .40 S&W compacts and I find them to have a bit more muzzle snap and whip than I prefer in my "working" .40's. My M&P 40c and 4013TSW are much better in this respect. Even my G27 is a bit better when it comes to recoil management and controllability, as I recall.

Look around and try to rent some different models to see what suits your desires and needs.

Shoot them
hopefully before you buy, consider that a 9 in the same size is going to be much more controllable than a .40, have more ammo etc.

when it comes to size and weight, both help you shoot well, the less of either, more the more difficult the pistol.

I'd suggest you go rent a few different pistols, though I think you'll really need to accept a striker fired to get some choices. Not many exposed hammer polymer choices and, in all honesty, Glock, S&W M&P and Springfield XD all make some really nice compact offerings in .40.

I can't say I've shot Glocks or M&P's enough to give you some honest feedback about their triggers, but I've been very impressed with the trigger action on my XD and it's impressively accurate for such a small pistol.

Check out the HK P2000. It meets all of your criteria except the metal trigger. I can't think of a single polymer pistol with a metal trigger though.

I know you want a metal trigger and exposed hammer but I seriously doubt you're going to find a poly gun with a better trigger than a Smith & Wesson M&P with an Apex Trigger.

I would look at the Sig P2022 or an HK P2000 or HK USPc. I don't know if they gave metal triggers available, my P2000 did not have one, but they fit alll of your other criteria. I would also check out the FN P9 series as well.

I'd personally recommend just getting a Glock 19 myself.

Trigger pull and grip are individual things. Try dry-firing the guns you're interested in and see which ones jump around when the trigger breaks vs the ones that stay still. You might be surprised by triggers/grips that feel great but are actually difficult to master, and vice versa.
