Hello all, I have done all the research including THR archives and have found wonderful advice, but am still counting on your passion and indulgence with this variant on the classic question: which gun to buy?

1. Glock 17 gen 3 9x21, NIB UW, price 500, shop will repurchase
2. Taurus PT92 AF, 9x21, used like new, DA/SA, price 600, shop will repurchase
3. FN Herstal, BDA9 9x21, pre-owned not used, price 500

Background: I have been practicing for a year at range and in field with a Buckmaster 22, a Mosin, and a Benelli M1 12 guage. In the pistol category I finally feel ready (marksmanship) to move up to a higher calibre. I really would love to get a Sig Sauer P232 in .380ACP, or a Glock 27 .40. just because I like them and they are great guns, but for lots of reasons related to total cost, availability and range/armourer advice, I have decided on a 9mm full size. Aif you are curious PM me, this is a 6 month research and personal decisioning shaggy dog not to get into here.

I live in Europe and am stuck with 9x21. Prices reflect market conditions, so I just note the 92 is 100 "units" more expensive, or 20%.

I know these are very different guns, especially the Glock, so I share some preferences, but am really open to your collective wisdom. Would love a CZ or Grand Power K100 which I have tried and liked, especially the GPK. I do not like Tanfoglios I have tried, and I have no access to a Glock for trial here. The three guns I mentioned are available from armourers I trust even if a used p232 .380 is available at distance for 450 and a used G27 is available for 500. Like I said I have decided the 9mm is the practical affordable and available round for my upgrade.

Purpose is range and eventual WORL, but that is just my inner boyscout talking. CC is not permitted here, nor will it likely ever be, and in any cass it is a pretty safe country. Never heard of a VC in the area. Truth be told I just like shooting and put about 200-300 rounds, or budget, whichever comes first, through my various bullet launchers every single week. Ammo is expensive, but I am one bright eyed and bushy tailed shooter.

Time for a bigger pistol calibre in my programme....

The Glock feels great in hand, trigger is surprisingly snappy and light, but so is the pistol. Sights work for me, it feels great in hand, but.... and here I quote many THRs.... it is soul-less. I know this gun will do everything I might ever ask of it. It just is no G27 to my eye and heart.

Taurus feels great. Solid. Hefty but comfortable, cozy even, DA trigger is long but smooth (to my in-shop dry fire finger), SA trigger is so short and light and surprising - compared to Beretta and Tanfoglio 9mm I have tried in range and shop comparisons of other pistols. I love the military tan color. I am very tempted except for the THR Taurus vs Glock threads. A bit like girls... You know who you should marry... Glock bakes and sweeps, but, mmhhhh, that Taurus is so sweet.... (amazingly no Beretta 92 is available' and certainly not in military tan)

The Browning (FN marqued) BDA9.... I was looking for a hi power SA, found this DA instead. Seems like a fantastic price for NIB (think relative price guys... this is Europe). Sights are nice and I acquire easily, trigger DA and SA decent in dry fire. I do admire and respect the history behind this gun. Feels good in hand, classic good looks, BDA9 reviews and THR advice as good as the high power, maybe better for DA fans.

I also tried. Beretta Px4 storm for 500. Hate it... feels plastic-y and I cannot reach the safety when gripping the pistol; have to use my left hand. Would go G17 over storm without hesitation.

My inner boyscout says Glock, my heart says Taurus, my Brain says BDA9.

So.... what do you think? I know I cannot go wrong, and I guess some would advise an H&K M&P or a Sig. Sorry, I cannot find them here, in my budget for my personal Christmas.

I am done watching the hundred youtubes, the FL threads and the textbooks, and I am now relying on you passionate gun-freaks (in the kindest sense) to make up my mind with your sage counsel.

Thank you!!!!

-Pavel

PS: I realise I have little post history here. I have been lurking mainly because I feel ill equipped to contribute wisdom what with my year's experience. My peeps taught me to keep quiet unless I had something smart to say. But I truly respect and value this community.

When in doubt, get a Glock. 65% of America's cops can't be wrong. However, if you can get a feel for each one, do it. No sense in spending your money twice. :D

If you go Glock I would get the Gen 4. The backstraps alone are worth the extra cost. The larger mag release, double recoil spring, ambidextrous mag release and RTF are all bonuses.

GLOCK without a doubt. It's the most modern design of your choices. Wouldn't consider the Taurus. Might consider the FN if it were a SA (P35). You obviously have internet access (you're HERE) so drink the Kool-aid, buy the G17, join the GLOCK TALK forum...and continue to join us here!

Thanks alot guys for feedback. The Taurus feels so nice in hand, but I do heed advice, so I will focus on the BDA9 and the Glock.

I may have to down payment the BDA9 and buy it over time to have both G17 and BDA9.
Or go with the BDA9 and keep looking for the G26 subcompact? Any opinions on that combo? Eventually having two in the same calibre does not seem like a bad WORL situation and mixing it up at the range seems fun.

If you like the G26 get the G17. I have the Gen 4 G26 and G34 and it's great to shoot two guns that feel alike. I makes it so much easier to transition from gun to gun. Also the G26 can take the G17 mags. I hit a 6" plate with my G26 the other day at 50 yards! One of my favorite guns right now.

My Brownings never sent brass back in my face. I can't say that about my Glock. My Brownings have never jammed. Can't say that about my Glock. Glock is much lighter and I like it's trigger and cheap price. Glock's customer service sucks. Can't comment on Browning's cs as I've never had a need.

I don't know anything about Browning, so I won't comment on them, but I've heard a lot of bad things about Taurus' quality control (some people have good Tauri, but a lot don't). I would suggest Glock based on what I know, or Browning based on the fact that I don't know anything bad about them.

I'm with roachcore (post#9). I have a tough time believing ANY of these 3 pistols are chambered in 9x21. The 9mm "Luger"/"Para" is the 9x19. Hey 351 Winchester, I'm a serious FN/BHP (P35) fan. Are you talking about a Hi-Power (SA) or the BDA (Browning Double Action) mentioned in the OP?

Glock 17 is the smart choice of the guns listed.

It does start to grow on you, once you understand it for what it is.

Europe has the 9x21 and the OP is apparently stuck with it.

9x21, because in some European countries you can't own a military caliber (9x19). 9x21 is pretty much the same as 9x19 from what I hear.
Go Glock! It's not soul less, the 17 is the original Glock and started a firearm trend. It's a workhorse.
Just curious, where in Europe?

The Taurus PT92AF is a handgun that even most Taurus-bashers will have to admit is a well made pistol. Mine has 30,000 rounds and counting through it. You will find them in widespread use across the US as "loaner" pieces at training schools, as a backup pistol when a student's handgun fails. It is heavy and a large handful, and has a long DA pull.

Any of your 3 choices are great handguns. Buy what is most comfortable for you.

Ghost tracker and roachcore, all three guns are chambered in 9x21IMI, because 9x19 para are illegal for civilian ownership in this country and others in Europe and Latin America. This means that older 9mm para version have to be permanently disabled for collection, or newer 9x21 versions can be had.

It is heavy compared to the Glock, but it doesn't feel so because so well balanced. It feelsnsolid. The Glock (now owned) feels a bit top heavy. Fully loaded with 17 in the mag, it has a better feel.
