From the great gurus of precision shooting....

Specifically on NF 12-42X56 with NP1-RR reticle for shooting primarily bench rest or off a bipod upto 1000 meters. Will get fitted onto either something like a TRG 42 (300 WM) or if I can find an affoardable rifle in 6.5x47 Lapua

Appropriate or should I go with something else?

nf makes outstanding scopes and they are tough to beat. they are very heavy, though, so if your gun will be subject to weight restrictions be sure to factor that in.

you won't do a nf scope any justice by putting it on a factory gun, though. so if a 6.5x47 is what you want, call lilja and have him put a barrel together for you, and have your favored 'smith hang it on your action of choice. for point of reference, the barrel and install job should cost somewhere between $500 and $800 depending on how detailed you get w/ blueprinting the action.

i have that exact scope, except using the 2-DD reticle, of which I am very fond. also, mine is the benchrest model. if you have any more specific questions...

it's a great scope.

Am based in france so that puts a damper on things. Not too many affoardable specialst outfitters...

Am speaking with Keppeler Guns in germany who have a 6.5x47 Lapua rifle, and trying to make contact with a gentleman called Steve Bowers in the UK who runs an outfit called specialist rifle services.

Am also exporing the possibility of getting a Walther barrel for the caliber.

Not wieghed down by weight restrictions... so no real issues there. That being said, i dont think the TRG 42 is not comparable to custom jobs... it certainly is the favourite of many of the compettive long range shooters in Europe.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me buy that same exact scope for my birthday. Gonna try a 1000m match in May. Also on my Savage with a Shilen 6.5x47 barrel. You might try Border barrels. I just can't decide on which reticule.
