I am trying to put together a more accurate battle rifle closer to DM type use concept. So far I’ve got the aero precision M5 upper and lower receiver, lower is mostly together and I plan on going to “heavybuffers” guy for dialing in my buffer weights. I have a faxon 18” rifle length gas, fluted heavy 416r nitrided “match” barrel, this is my first ar10/lr308 build and am quickly noticing pretty much all the handguards for the platform are basically junk. Some might claim this one or that one is their personal preference, but zero data backing. Most don’t even have anti rotation tabs or use a bunch of tiny screws and fasten to the barrel nut which to me seems retarded. I was hoping to run geissle or Daniel defense but it’s a no go for the ar10/lr308 community. They don’t make them anymore. I’m starting to think I should have just bought something expensive like the hk or pof or even LWRCI for 308 battle rifle goodness. Please any help or guidance would

Be very helpful. I spent 8 years active all over, did the Iraq thing at its peak and private contracting. I’m retired and unfortunately have to purchase my own weapons now and struggling to put a decent kit together. Money is kinda tight but I’d rather eat ramen for 2 weeks then get garbage. Was seriously considering the faxon slimline rails or Midwest industries combat rail, but both look kinda weak.

MAKE IRON SIGHTS GREAT AGAIN!!!

I have a couple MWI combat rails on ar15's and they are solid. I'm guessing the LR308 ones are solid as well. I've never been disappointed in anything I have gotten from MWI. You are 100% correct, there really isn't much for "Gucci" rails for the large frame rifles out there.

I actually posted on a few message boards, read many reviews and YouTubed it and everyone has the same opinion of mwi as you do… I’m almost positive we had some mwi accessories and yhm while I was active. I appreciate the response

I've built a couple large-frame ARs with SLR Rifle works handguards. I like them because they're fairly slim and slick, and can be had in a variety of styles; high or low pattern full or partial top rail, partial side rails, keymod or m-lok.
