After years of waiting- A Smith 18

Nabbed this at a pawn shop an hour south of home yesterday- I didn't even see it at first.. I asked the clerk to see the Smith having only seen the 66-1... What ended up in my hand look to be a reaaally beat Model 15.. But, wait- it's kinda heavy Oh my it's a 4" .22 - SOLD - That ugly 15 became the most beautiful revolver I have ever seen. I want to go camping just so I can sit and plink all day I have drooled for one of these going on a decade..
I gave the 66-1 an obligatory fondle but felt like I was cheating..

Pre-18 with a heck of a lot of honest wear. All numbers match including the grips. SN K1625XX I'll need to hit up the date thread next! I over paid at $450 OTD but the Joy, the sheer JOY that's to come make it priceless

Woot! My favorite firearm is my Model 18. Your K22 Combat Masterpiece was manufactured in 1952. Serial range for that year was K136691 to K175637.
The K22 Combat Masterpiece was introduced in 1949. Yours is a 5 screw gun, the upper side plate screw was deleted in 1955. The grips appear to be correct for the period.
I would have paid that in a heartbeat. When I finally got my hands on a Model 18 the dealer was holding it for another customer to look at. I asked to inspect it then wouldn't give it back till he took my money. His asking price was $425, I had $426 on me at the time. It was a _great_ day.

LOVE mine. I found it in a basement setting up an estate sale. I wasn't old enough, so dad bought it for $50. Ten years later, without a shot fired, he sold it to me for $100.
Not bad for 95% in the gold box with pamphlet.

They are my favorite teaching tool...nice balance but the only thing I wish is with the slim barrel S&W had put a round butt on them...

Combat and Target Masterpiece.... The 4" was a friend's uncle's. The 6" my wife found at a gun show while we were walking around...both ended up being 1951s...



Picked up this one last year...a 1964 I think....smoothest DA I have ever felt in a S&W .22...



...and then I found my Dream 18...







...not a factory original of course but since someone had butchered it the gun shop owner about gave it to me... Fits small handed shooters much better than the square butt...

Nice find on that 1952...that is when I was born and would have grabbed it also...

I have a couple of K22s and they are wonderful guns.

As you have proven, taking your time and waiting for a less than perfect looking gun makes for a great buy.

You will have many hours of pleasure shooting that jewel.
