I have purchased a few different brands of aftermarket Grips and have been let down on all but one pair. The resins don't seem to hold the nut.
The grips that only have a one sided screw (with an internal threaded nut) have given me the most trouble! The affixed nut inside the grip always seems to pull out. I don't overtighten the nut and in one case, I even epoxied a washer to the inside of the grip to ensure that the nut would stay put.
It pulled loose though...
When buying Grips the only secure type has the through bolt and an external nut on the outside of the grip! I have this type on my Vaquero and have had zero problems.
I am not going to name manufacturers as that's a cold shot, but lets say it was with some supposedlly "good" grips.
Maybe the recoil jars the nut so severely that it actually breaks the bond at the nut? I don't shoot heavy loads and I doubt recoil is the culprit. I think that it is the basic design of the nut and how it is affixed to the grip panel. One set was even on a Single Six.
The problem is so bad that I really am starting to not want imitation stag grips anymore, though I do LOVE the look!
Have you all had similar problems with aftermarket grips?
