Just picked up the Rem 700 ADL in 300 WM I have talked about in prev posts.

To be "lawyer friendly," Remmington decided to ship it w/ a 6.5 pound trigger. I went out on the net and found instructions for adjusting it, but the best I can do is a very creepy (alot of take up) 4.0 pound.

These are the instructions i used:

Two questions,

1. Does anyone else have a set of instructions that will return better reults?

2. If I just replace the trigger w/ aftermarket, which ones do you guys like and why?

ID_shooting,

I believe "snipercountry" has some instructions, but you'll understand that with as many lawyers as we seem to turn out, people are hesitant to help people with triggers. (Lawyers have to eat, too, you know. Wouldn't it be nice if they ate each other?)

MidwayUSA has replacement triggers for the Remington 700 that will overcome some of the (probable) design deficinecies of the 700's trigger. I have no Remington's, but I understand Jewell is the best.

I've found a few Remington 700 triggers that showed the same symptoms as yours...couldn't be adjusted below 4#. The problem is that there's a burr in the channel that the trigger pull weight screw (front bottom) and spring move in. Either the spring is deformed and binding or there's a burr. A properly working Remington 700 trigger can easily be adjusted down to 2# or so, with very little overtravel and creep.

Remove the screw and spring and examine the channel to see if you can spot a burr. Make sure that the spring moves freely in the channel.

Well, I followed the snipercountry instructions,

The result is 2.5 pounds, smooth but still more takeup than I would like. Went through three days of rack and dryfire, work flawlessly and safely, havnt taken it to the range yet. My gib-game plans fell through for this year so I have been focusing on my shotgunning for bird season.

I will be working on load dev in the next few weeks. remind me to let you know how it worked out.

UPDATE:

I took the rifle in to my local smith to get a quote on installing a trigger kit, he looked at it and said he wasn't sure as he has never put one in a m700 before, he went on to say that with some polishing and tuning the factory triggers are excellent. I asked him how much a trigger job was and he quoted $45.00. I gave him the $$ and he took the rifle, told me I would have it back that afternoon. At lunchtime I called and it was done:

WOW, 2.5 pounds and CRISP. He was correct, it has one sweet trigger now.

So, no longer a need to look at aftermarket :) I just floated the barrel and bedded the action then went shooting

As for load dev, I got some 200gr accubonds, some RE22, mixed once-fired brass, and Fed 215 primers, Loaded from 70.0 - 73.5. About 1/3 the way through found one that gave me 3/4 inch @ 100 yds @ 2850 fps. I plan to load some more to confirm it, but it is looking real promising.
