The trigger on my Remington 700LTR is fairly heavy. I would like to lighten it and was considering two methods: the "do-it-yourself" method with instructions from the 'Net (I actually have done this before on another Rem 700 and it worked pretty good), or, installing a Rifle Basix trigger (can be done by me, not a gunsmith the info says). Which would you recommend? Thanks!

The trigger on the model 700 can be dangerous if adjusted incorrectly, and most definitely can go off unexpectedly. Been there, done that. It can go off when you close the bolt (safe gun handling practices- barrel pointed in a safe direction- saved me there). The problem seems to be the spring in the trigger is very heavy and to get a light pull, you have to adjust sear engagement to a dangerously small amount.

Holland's gunsmithing used to have a trigger spring kit (I think he still has them- www.hollandguns.com) that works great. They're a lot cheaper than an aftermarket trigger. I have them in three 700s and they make for a very nice (safe) two pound pull.

Thanks, all, for your input. I think I will try a spring replacement before trying to adjust it myself.
