I got my first Trijicon AGOG 4x32 with TA31RCO-M4 reticle and the chevron is way too bright on a sunny day. My Accupoint has a "dial" to partially cover the fiber optic input so I can dim it on our brightest days. Doesn't seem to be any such provisions on the AGOG.

I put some black vinyl electrical tape over part of the fiber to tone it down, I'm I missing a part or some knowledge of how its supposed to be adjusted?

Yep, that's the drawback to fiber optics. Tape is probably the most common solution.

I'd love to see a way to adjust it built in, but it would probably make the unit that much bulkier and that much more expensive.

Somewhere I have seen a zippered scope coat of neoprene that goes on the acog. The zipper opens and closes to adjust the amount of light hitting the fibre optic.

Two or three strips of dark colored tape always found a home on service ACOGs. Just be sure you don't cover the whole input with tape, otherwise it won't be visible at all.

To sight in an ACOG it is often recommended to put tape or similar over the fiber optic to reduce the reticle's brightness and yield a sharper triangle or chevron.

However, to take advantage of the ”Bindon aiming concept (BAC)" you want the reticle to be quite bright. The theory being along the line of, with both eyes open you'll focus on the target. As the weapon comes up and the clearer, magnified, image, as seen through the ACOG, starts to cover the target, the brain will tend to shift attention to the ACOG eye and more so to the bright reticle.

It is explained better in the ACOG instruction booklet.
