I'm almost too embarrassed to tell you guys about this...

Sometimes those ah-ha moments are good & bad all at the same time.
Good, in that you finally figured it out, bad in that you kinda feel stupid for not figuring it out way before.

I bought a 2nd hand Dillon RL 550B around the end of last November.
Ever since, I've been whining about the priming system.
Either it wasn't dropping primers, or it would spit them all out at once.

About 2 weeks ago it spit all out & I didn't notice it & crushed a part called the Primer feed stop pin. It's a little white plastic pin.

Well I called Dillon & they sent 2 new ones.
But it only got worse :fire:
Until this morning.

I stopped & was looking at it, and it suddenly dawned on me, it was in backwards.:banghead:

There's a bolt holding a little trap door & the previous owner had ignored that & put it in from the other side.

I put it in the correct way & just reloaded 2 boxes & only once did it not drop a primer.

Don't feel bad - I had an "a-ha" moment as well yesterday in fact. I just bought a new XL 650 and as I was assembling the powder die and installing the failsafe rod, I was trying to figure out why it didn't open all the way when I cycled it. Then it dawned on me, that's what it does to prevent powder from being dispensed without any case in Station 2. Duh... Test cycling some empty cases confirmed that.

Thats alright Hondo, when I first started reloading I kept crushing the cases for my .380. I adjusted the die body about 14-eleven times, 1/8 of a turn down.... crush. Until I realized I needed to raise the de primer/belling part of the die up, away from the shell holder! Seems kinda crazy, I never did crush anymore. You're alright, now, reload! LOL

I doubt he will.
He never used the press.
There were no scratches, turn marks, nothing.

I opened the box & the receipt was still in it.
The date on it is 12/09/1993.

1 550B $294.00
1 Conv 45-70 Gov't $25.50 (no charge ) Charge was not added to subtotal
1 Redding Die Set 45-70 $32.50
subtotal $326.50
shipping $17.90
Total $344.40

Wish I could still get a conversion kit for $25.50, those things are $44.95 now.
