Thanks for all the info and tips. My FFL guy has had this for a week and I was finally able to go pick it up yesterday. Still haven't had a chance to go shooting yet, though. I also got a few of the Bulgarian circle 10 magazines in olive drab to complete the look.

According to the picture on the K-var website, I expected an olive drab 5 round magazine, but it came with black 5 round instead. I took this picture with one of my Bulgarian circle 10 mags.

Congrats!

I finally shot mine today for the first time since having it worked over by a gunsmith. Long story short: I bought it second hand, it had key mistakes and wouldnt work, he fixed it up. Practically brand new.

Had it propped up to the desk all last night while reading THR and watching youtube vids. I would look over at it periodically. Had this ominous cloud around it. Kind of like a slow, deep heartbeat every four seconds. I felt like it was looking at me. I swear the damn thing was growling.

I most certainly awakened a sleeping beast this morning.

If I were you i'd be expecting that 30 round mag shown in the picture not a 5 round one. I'm guessing those ain't legal at your location. I'm not a fan of the plastic mags, I prefer the metal surplus ones.

HAHA! Mine is sitting right here. I've disassembled and reassembled it about 10 times so far today.

I'm in Texas, so the 30 rounds are no big deal. But, the SGL21 just comes with the 5 round magazine. This is the picture from the K-var website. I just wished the 5 round was olive drab like the pic instead of black like I got. That way I can keep the OD coolness if I wanted to go hunt with it. :p

I think it looks awesome and with the thirty round Bulgarian circle 10 mag even better. From what I understand, these circle 10's are some of the best mags, but they're too expensive. I'll end up with mostly steel black ones in the long run.

I love me a good AK!

I totally dig the olive furniture, though then again, I think most colors look good on the AK. The wood (if stained well) looks classy, the black has that menacing "evil" look, and the green just looks nifty!

Here's my AK:

I don't currently have my digital camera (loaned it to a friend) or I could take a better picture, for now webcam will suffice. It's a Romanian WASR-10 with black synthetic furniture, and I swapped out the gas tube for an ULTIMAK scout sight rail and an inexpensive holographic sight.

I could be wrong, but I was thinking that if I went hunting here in Texas, I couldn't have a rifle with more than 5 rounds in it.

I'm sure it's also cheaper to sell with the 5 round mags instead. Greater profit on their part.

Awe... Jr. has such cute "dimples"

wish my wittle Saiga boy had cute dimples like that....don't quite get why some do and some don't...

but then again... I have almost no noticeable mag. wobble as it it...

is that the Warsaw pact length stock? or the NATO length?

mind sharing what that set you back??

Mine is the Warsaw. I decided to go regular AK length since I couldn't decide for sure. Now that I have it, I could have gone NATO and been happy, but I'm happy with the Warsaw length too. I got mine when they were $599 at K-var.com. To bad I didn't order sooner and get it for even less, but I'm content.

The last time I looked there were no magazine capacity limitations for hunting game animals and birds, except migratory birds...The Fed's control all migratory game and we all know those limitations...Just looked it up and the book agrees.
One round for the deer and the other twenty-nine for snakes and varmints.

Oh wow, very cool. That's good to know! I thought it would be like a shotgun where we're only allow to have 3 in the magazine/tube.

Here's mine. Not as fancy shmancy, but I really like the stock Saiga forearm better...more places to put my hand. Being long-armed I originally got the NATO buttstock but soon realized it was way too much. The Warsaw version is much more suited to the AK, and I believe it's the length that normally comes on them.

The Saiga forearm does seem very good. I like that it gives more holding options. If I converted my own, I'd probably do the same.

The downside to the saiga handguards is that they don't offer the sling mount that most other AK's offer in the front.
