Thanks. Not very surprising as batteries, condensed milk, potatoes,..... are still readily available at Walmart. Lets just say I will start panicking when those items plus fishing sinkers are sold out.
The Rio Royal 00 shells are a bit longer than 2 3/4" because of the crimp on top so you need a 3" chamber to use them. They aren't bad shells and the go bang when I pull the trigger. But you need to under load by one shell because of the length.
No, you don't. A shotgun chamber is cut to accommodate a shell AFTER the crimp is open, and the opened roll crimp on the Rio shell is no longer than any other 2 3/4" shell after firing. The unfired shell may be longer than a "standard" star crimped shell, but this matters not in the chamber.
Yes, you may or may not lose one round of capacity, depending on your particular shotgun.
Ok I was mistaken but I hear from others as well that you need to unloader load by one shell which is true.
The one on left is a Federal 132 9 pellet 00 buckshot. To right is Rio Royal 9 pellet 00 buckshot round. The Rio is a bit longer so I have to under load by one shell in all of my shotguns.
But it is fine for target practice and I would feel comfortable using them for HD as well.
Shotgun shells with roll crimps often have a slightly greater OAL (overall length) when unfired than the same length hull with a star crimp. That may indeed mean one less roll crimped round will go in the magazines of certain shotguns, but it does not mean that firing a 2.75"/70mm roll crimped shell requires a 3" chamber.
