Hey, so I wanna put an Aimpoint on my AR15. I'm only interested in shooting under 100 yards with it so I'm considering the T-1/LaRue combo below. It's 4MOA so thats a lil over 4" at 100 yards right? Does that really translate with red dots?

What do you guys think for shooting pretty close range, mostly target shooting but may keep it by my bed for indoor emergency use. I'm trying to also keep my carbine really lightweight too.

For precision shooting you can turn the dot intensity down to where you can barely see the dot and it can be pretty precise, depending on the background of your target. If you make it bright it will "bloom" and be less precise but much easier to make quick shots. I think the Aimpoint is good to at least 200yds.

A good low power scope can be almost as fast and better at seeing targets in low light or against a low contrast background. To get this performance you will pay at least as much as an Aimpoint + mount but unless extreme low light/close range is the problem you are trying to solve you will end up with a better sighting system.

I am going to get the 4MOA Aimpoint T-1 when I can afford one myself. Looks like the best choice for me, too. Love that 5 year "on" battery life!

ive got aimpoints with 2moa and 4moa dots and prefer the 4. It is much more visable for a fast shooting and i dont notice a differnce out to a 100 yards for precision shooting. that been said niether are what you want if you want to shoot moa groups. About 2-3 inch at a 100 yards is the best i can do with one. For a 100 yard or less shooting there hard to beat. When the ranges get over a 100 yards i prefer an acog.

Personally, I like the CompM4. AA batteries are so much easier to find. :) Too bad they're so expensive.

I've got CompM3s on several rifles and like the sight. I prefer 2MOA, but that's a personal preference.

I like the 2MOA versions of the Aimpoint, personally. The finer dot is easier to zero and it can be turned up enough to bloom to a bigger apparent size if needed.

I've owned a ML3 and am currently using a M4s on the AR. The T1 is nice and tiny and light... Not an easy choice.

Keep in mind that you can zero a 4MOA dot using the center of the top edge, like you would a big fat front sight blade. That will give you better precision than trying to put your target under the center of the dot.

At very close range, use the center of the dot for rapid sight acquisition. That will make you aim a little high which will be OK too since you need to aim high at close range anyway due to the height over bore.
