I had been thinking about trying it for a couple of years before I actually did, but I have always wanted to see how long the battery would last in this optic. The battery was last changed on June 18, 2019 as the yearly replacement and checked periodically during intervals when it wasn't shot. I had the gun out roughly 3 weeks ago and it appeared the dot was weaker than normal, so I took it out of the safe yesterday and it was completely dead. As I was taking the old one out I thought maybe it could have been a mistake to wait if the old battery had leaked (no idea if these batteries are susceptible to that), but everything looked fine and it fired right up when the new battery was installed. So roughly two years and nine months, and I now feel better about the ability of the optic to run well past my scheduled battery changes.

I have left older Aimpoints on for 12-14 months without an issue. So almost 3 years is pretty good in my book. Too bad they don't use AA batteries though. I hate replacing 1/3N batteries

I've wondered if the type of battery contributes to the long run time, I really have no idea. Those batteries are impossible to find in small towns in my experience, so it has always been a matter of ordering them from Amazon in the past. The battery that was run in this test was a couple of years old when it was installed.

The battery matters. The Pro has an advertised battery life of 3 years. In your case 2y 9mos. The CompM4 (last optic I used in the military) has an advertised battery life of 8 years. With AA battery. I prefer my optics to have easy to find batteries and it is the main reason why I haven't gotten a Pro. Even 2032 and CR123 batteries are pretty easy for me to find. The only thing I have currently that uses a 1/3N is a Leupold scope that I have had for close to 15 years. Aimpoints are tough though. I have seen them take a lot of abuse (intentional and non) and never break. They are well worth the money for serious use.
