I have a 1377 - GIS looks similar to the 2300 in basic shape, but Crossman's website shows major differences.

Oddly, my 1377 has a completely different breech than the ones I see for sale now.
 
Now that you mention it I do have an old Crossman air pistol, but I have no idea where the thing is now.
 
just curious. I've ordered a 2300s that is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I am anxious to shoot it. I will be able to shoot it indoors in my shop and I can't wait. I'm new to the website but I haven't seen much on air guns.
 
Something tells me that you'll be seeing more and more on airguns as time goes by.
 
Sad but true comment krs. However, I will say it is fun to shoot and amazingly accurate. Being able to shoot it at home in my shop or garage is a huge benefit for me. I would need to drive a minimum of 15 or so miles to shoot even a 22. So being able to shoot this at home is a lot of cheap fun.

Mine, too. Bought it back in the eighties, and it has just a curved sliding plate that opens to load. The current ones have what looks more like a bolt-action loading port..

Mine has the same thing ... due to neglect over the years, the breech cover (don't know what to call the part on an airgun) seems to be showing some rust. Nowhere else, just on the outside of that cover. I probably bought it in 1999 or 2000, back in Charleston, just for fun. I shot it with darts in Hawaii once in a while, and hadn't seen it since returning to the mainland.
To tell the truth, I hadn't thought about that pistol for a long time, and this thread prompted me to dig it out.
I may have to look into getting some pellets and a pellet trap for it and doing some 3-4 pump indoor shooting just for the hell of it.
