"I don't think you can extrapolate this as speed doubled at 100% shaft due to cavitation, exponential increase in water and wind resistance, and such. Lets just say that much better than 31 knots it is."

You're absolutely correct on that.

Top speed for a Nimitz would, if the planets were aligned correctly and every thing else was in congruence, MAYBE 42 knots, and that's a healthy maybe.

That's 48.33 Statute MPH; legal speed on every freeway and turnpike in America.

the rights of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed is the only thing to say. If we all put in the 775, then we have to donate guns to put on it, the carrier would have many mounted glocks and marlins and s&w's

What kind of trailer hitch? That thing needs water - deep water - to navigate down an I-95 et al.

States would call that a Wide Load and want some magnanimous coin for plates... and the insurance - ugh! And we'd have to "garage" it in a state with no inspection requirement... I mean, can you see calling in NAVSEA's PERA for annual inspections? No one else (in state govt) would know where to start. ;) :)

Methinks ya'll are pullin' my leg here.

One of the advantages of carrier speed is for recovery of aircraft following an emergency. When Nimitz went on it's first cruise, it carried VMFA-333 as one of it's embarked fighter squadrons. I knew many of the aircrew following that deployment. They had an F-4 with a hydraulic failure. The ship was making steerage in a 30 kt. wind. The F-4 was going to be recovered no-flap. Landing speed goes up from 135 to 175 kts. The Air Boss called the Captain and called for speed. In no time, the ship was doing 30 kts, with the 30 kt. local wind for 60 + kts. wind over the deck. Relative boarding speed is now pretty much the same.

She is the Minas Gerais (ex-HMS Vengeance), former British Light Fleet Carrier with a displacement of around 15,00 tons (19,000 full load). The British WWII fleet carriers were around 22,000 tons (c. 27,000 full load).

Someone asked what kind of guns; she's listed as having 10 X 40mm AA guns (2 quad and 2 single mounts).

What would FedEx charge to deliver it to my front door? How much would the use tax be? Where would I find a drive on trailer for it? Would my Ford F-150 tow it? Details, details.....

Haha, yea I noticed that schadenfreude :D

What a joker...hahahaha Hey he got some bids too

My Auction Arms is suspended too I think. Damn expired credit cards.... now if I could figure out how to make a payment on their crappy site I would.

"I heard about that sub confiscation.
Wasn't it full of cocaine?"

Don't take this as the gospel, but I remember watching a show on TV about this. It was something like "Stories of the FBI" or something like that. A crime show.
Anyway, as I remember, a drug runner who also owned a strip club somewhere in Florida, bought a Russian diesel submarine WITH THE CREW as a means to smuggle cocaine into the US from South America. The FBI was on to him and made the arrests at some point although I don't remember if he actually took possession of the sub or not. I may be letting my imagination wander, but I believe the just drove it away from a Russian military base.
