I'm going to Atlanta this week again and would like to bring my AK from FL to GA to shoot at a range and on a person's property this week. Is this legal and am I asking for trouble? I have a CCW in FL if that matters and already carry there.

Thanx

Why would this be illegal? An AK (if we're referring to a Kalashnikov design) is a rifle.

Is a rifle legal in Georgia?

If so, you're good to go.

I would imagine if whatever you are bringing into another state is legal (and the way you're carrying and transporting it is legal) in that state, you're good to go.

Unless your AK is an NFA-registered machine gun, there's no problem whatsoever. If it is an NFA-registered machine gun, you have to file a form with the ATF telling them in advance that the weapon is crossing state lines.

Did not know that.

Not that I'd ever have enough money to own anything FA, but that's still good to know. I wonder what possible use this notification could do, though. What are they gonna do?

Well, part of the purpose is to help keep you from running afoul of the state laws you might have missed. For instance, if you try to file a 5320.20 to take your machine gun into Delaware, the ATF will refuse it because you'd be in violation of DE state law -- machine gun posession is illegal there, NFA-registration notwithstanding.
