AK Build Problem

I had an AK built by a gunsmith using a DCI receiver and a Romanian parts kit, but it is not functioning. I just received it today and the bolt is locking up every time I pull it back. When I pull the bolt back it looks like the hammer is pressing up on the bolt. The bolt then pops out of the receiver rails locking it all the way back as if it had a bolt hold open function. The only way I can get it to go forward is to slam the buttstock on the ground. I have emailed the gunsmith, but I was wondering if any of you can shed some light on the problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just a guess, but it sounds like the rear trunnion is mounted too far to the rear, allowing the bolt to ride up through the upper rails?

Had a build do that once, an AK buffer seemed to solve it. (but not a big fan of buffers on AKs in general).

Definitely have the 'smith fix her for you---it aint right.

I am going to wait for the gunsmith to email me back, but I have found that if I don't ride the bolt it will cycle just fine. Some have told me that this is not unusual, but I am going to see what the gunsmith says. Thanks for all of your help.

Also, when you pull it back and it locks, can you press down on the charging handle and will that make it fly foward? (instead of slamming the butt on the ground?)

I would NOT fire that thing--imagine if the recoil is pushing that back at 88 thousand miles an hour and it jumps the rail and punches you in the eye?

That is one of my main concerns, and why I am waiting for the smith to email me back. If I give the charging handle a good slap I can usually get it to fly forward. If I just press down on the charging handle it does nothing.

Sounds like the rails are catching on the bolt. Have seen a build up do that before. A little polishing of the rails with a dremmel works wonders.
