My ak is wiping the tip of softpoint rounds on the chamber edge- they feed fine, but put a small flat on the side of the bullet tip. Any reason not to grind a small bevel on the chamber/barrel end ? about 1/16? I am thinking about the unsupported area of the case head that would result.

I don't know, I have never single loaded rounds to check. It seems likely that a 1/16 to 1/8" angled flat on one side of a bullet tip would have an effect on accuracy.

Tip damage does not effect acuracy to bad. Damage to the bullet base and it will destroy accuracy

My CETME kills softpoints as well. On a personal note, I wouldn't modify the firearm, as no military firearm that I'm aware of had softpoints in mind when they were designed;)

DON'T DO IT!

Any unsupported spot WILL cause a case blow out, pop the dust cover off in yout face, blow the bottom of the magazine apart, deform the receiver (if a stamped one, unsure about forged), and really scare the poo out of the shooter.

Don't want to admit how I know, just trust me on this one.
