A friend of mine recently bought a romainian AK. As a result of using one of the (slightly out of spec) mags we found that the noses of rounds were being deformed as a result of the chambering process (even through the good mags). I then took a closer look at the action and found that rounds were hitting the mouth of the chamber at a near orthogonal angle, and only getting into the chamber by force of the return spring.
My question is this: can I remove a bit of metal from the chamber/bbl to make a feed ramp without compromising chamber support? With about a half a mm, I think the whole thing could be vastly improved. Has anyone done this? It seems like the sort of thing that everyone with a bit of savvy would do to improve their rifles, unless it was unsafe.
Thanks,
-Jon
