AK74 furniture

I'm about finished with my polish tantal and I want to replace/redo the furniture. anyone know where I can get furniture that will fit it? I primarily need upper/lower handguards since it's a folder and I have loads of pistol grips already.

my AKM handguards wont fit on it. it's rather odd.

the other option I see is duracoating the ones I have to a different color.- not my favorite idea but it's there.

I've never heard of a 74 where the 47 furniture didn't. I've never built a Tantal though?

the tantal uses a different retaining mechanism for the hand guards.

I got to get my mits on my tantal first hand today- what a neat rifle! the barrel is much longer than my MAADI but all in all it seems to weigh about the same. my mismatched 74 mags all fit (a handful of bakelite, black plastic and steel mags).

the wire stock is very sturdy but feels like it could get painful while shooting. I'm still undecided about whether I'm going to regret having used the wire one and not the triagular folder.

I guess I'll be duracoating the handguards to make them match. Haven't figurd out if I want to go black or a different color this time. I heard there's a guy around here who makes custom furniture so I might look him up. real wood beats fake wood any day IMO. I know some people really like the ugly tantal furniture but that's not me.

I haven't tried any complicated stuff with duracoat so far- just your average blueing replacement jobs. the stuff has been very consistant and reliable so far.

I'm gonna try to get it out to the range this week (this weekend at the latest) and get you guys a range report.
