Greetings All,

I am talking to a guy who is selling an AK74 with the following components:
Romanian Parts Kit
Nodak Spud Reciever
ATI Strikeforce stock/handguards

He is not sure if the barrel is chrome lined or not? I intend to shoot primarily surplus corrosive ammo through this one, so its kinda important to me. It seems most AKs have chrome lined barrels - would anyone be able to tell me the likelihood of a Romanian AK74 Parts kit including a chrome lined barrel?

What would you think a fair price would be for the setup with 3 mags?

Thanks,

Sorry I should read. I know that almost all romanian rifles have chrome. If it was made form a WASR 2 then it should be. Can you get a pic of the bore?

Not the best picture, but here is a pic of the bore taken by the seller:

Sellers description:

"Ak 74 5.45 cal, Romanian part kit (all parts matching serial #) NoDak stamped receiver, stiker force set. bipod

REAL Romanian part enough USA parts to compliance 922r 3 mag 30 rnds."

That isn't a Romy parts kit. The front sight base and gas block are Russian Saiga, I know the Russian/Bulgarian `74 FSB don't fit well on Romy `74 barrels (has to seat further back because of a step in the Romy's). So the barrel is either Saiga, surplus Bulgy or US made. Saiga and surplus Bulgy are chrome lined, US isn't. Crown looks messed up judging from the blurry pic.

The bolt carrier is wrong for a Romy too, it's either a Saiga or Bulgarian. That also means the trunion isn't Romy either.

Gas tube is old AK47 (pre-AKM) or Chinese. Saftey, mag catch and trigger guard are Saiga. The only thing Romy might be the dust cover, it's not Saiga. FCG is non-US made so I doubt the gun is 922r compliant, if it matters to you.

That right there is a 100% pure bred built-at-home mutt. I'd stay FARRRR away from that. I wouldn't even make an offer, chances are the mags are Tapco junk too. IF they were real surplus `74 mags I offer $10-$20 per mag depending on condition.

ETA: he says it's 922r compliant, that means the mags have to be US. The furniture is 3 parts, and the reciever 1; you need at least 1 more. Just say no, and find a factory 5.45 Saiga.

I have to concur with Kurt, that isn't a matching Romy parts parts kit. I can't ID all the parts as well as he can but I can tell you that the gas tube is wrong for a '74 and the FSB looks stock for a Saiga. The trigger guard is also wrong. I'd stay away from it. Either the seller is misrepresenting what he has or he was lied to when he bought it.

Just as an aside I think with that mix of parts the seller would be better off calling it a "Khyber Pass" AK.

I agree With the above posters. That's super sketchy, it looks like a saiga kit on a nodak receiver. If I knew the builder I would buy it but the seller doesn't even know what he has AND you don't know the builder.

Thank you all for chiming in. You have saved me from making a horrible mistake!

In the 600 range, the M+M AK74.. any opinions about them?

They are Romanian WASR-2s with some upgrades, treat them as such - problems to look for are canted sights and/or overly tight or loose mage well.

I'm not sure what WASRs and Romy wire folders are going for these days but the package seems GTG if you don't care about traditional AK looks. The barrel is a com-bloc orginal so should be chrome lined and GTG. Most Romy WASR issues are cosmetic and can be fixed with a file or BFH.

ETA: I'd try to fine surplus `74 mags, steel, polymer or bakelite. I'm not big on US ones.

The M10 rifle is pretty good. It's not very traditional in looks but I can't knock it's functionality. I do wish they hadn't shortened the sight radius on it but that's really my only complaint.

In the $600 range you should try and look around for a Waffen Werks '74. They're a bit hard to find at the moment but they're built up as AK-74M clones and the quality is superb.

I'd also concur on using com-bloc mags over US ones. The US manufacturers have never realized that there's a very good reason the Soviets designed their magazines with steel locking tabs. The US mags sometimes have the plastic tabs break off and then they don't really work anymore.
