The 12 gage MKA 1919 shotgun came with 2 mags one for 2 3/4" shot shells and one mag for 3". The 2 3/4 mag (due to the back of the mag) is much harder to load than the 3". The rim of the shot shell catches where the brass meets the shell already loaded in the mag. I will probably end up taking a dermal tool and cutting the lips back 1/4" on the 2 3/4" shot shell mag.

The box also had a choke removal tool (looks like a "T" handle) and 3 chokes. Full choke was already installed but was not securely screwed in. Also a metal ring (gas ring) was in a plastic pouch which if you are going to shoot low brass shells (they say) you should replace the original ring with the one provided.

Exterior of the MKA1919 looks like an oversize AR in all dimensions; it is slightly larger and has a length of 40.5 inches and weighs 3300 g. or 7.27535 pounds with a fixed stock. Was very concerned with the weight and recoil before I purchased.

The MKA 1919 I received is a camo painted version from Centerfire systems. They are a great company to deal with in my experience. I have to many black rifles and wanted something that would stand out in the safe.

The cool factor of this MKA 1919 scores very high. Thought one person at the range was going to put it on a pedestal and start making weird sounds as he prostrated himself before it.

Myself not so much and here is why.

It is a polymer gun which seems to be made really well. Fit and finish on the weapon received is very good. There is a detachable carry handle sight installed just like your AR with elevation knob adjustments and peep sight etc etc. The peep is plastic as well as the adjustment knobs and I have to wonder how well the sight will hold up after days in the sun and heat which you might encounter during a normal summer outing. Feels like plastic not polymer but I could be wrong.

The safety lever is polymer as well as the trigger. The mag release is metal. The safety has a Rubie like red stone for fire and a diamond like stone for safe embedded in the lower assembly. Kinda gets the girls attention as soon as they see it. The front sight looks like an AR but it is attached by screws and the front sight post is not adjustable; just one big hunk of polymer or plastic.

The pistol grip does not have a bottom cover for storage and can not be removed due to it being an integral part of the lower. There is enough room for making a plate to fit and adding some small screws if a storage compartment is wanted.

Out of the box and to the shotgun range I went and after loading five 2 3/4 inch high brass #4 shot shells in the mag I decided I needed to do a little dermal work on the mag lips. The 3" mag is cut properly and there is no problem filling the mag, however, the shorter shells get hung up on the rim of the brass because you can not place you next round's rim past where the brass meets the shell casing of the prior loaded shell.

The recoil of the weapon is about 68.574% that of a Mossberg 88 I have that kills me to shoot (calibrated shoulder). I did not shoot 3" slugs or 00 buckshot but I did shoot 20 rounds of the #4 and the gun fed and shot w/o any problems. The only thing that I did prior to firing was a general inspection and shot some Breakfree CLP around the BCG.

As I arrived home the local sheriff and one of his deputies was cruising through the neighborhood and he stopped to chat. I asked him if he had ever seen an AR 12 gage shotgun? For the nest 20 minutes he an his female deputy (who had also stopped) along with myself discussed the MKA 1919. The deputy really liked the fire/safe stones of the safety.

Only time will tell how well the weapon will hold up under actual field conditions.

I am not a polymer kinda guy so my feeling or judgement on such things are slightly bias. The sights bug me more than anything because I feel they are cheap. I do have an extra carry handle around here someplace and if it fits (it should) I might swap out the carry handle with a "REAL ONE" just to see. Having said that I probably will just leave the MKA 1919 as is and replace or repair as necessary as time goes by. Could put a Red dot on it but why? Jeez it is a 12 gage and if you can't hit something with it maybe a consideration should be given to retiring from shooting?

It is felt that over time there will be more and more add-ons/accessories for the MKA 1919 like maybe a 20 round drum mag or mags that will hold more than 5 rounds. On a foot note a normal length AR sling is a tad bit to short for this weapon if you want to sling, point and shoot.

I wanted another 12 gage shotgun I could shoot without permanent damage to my body so on that account I am pleased. This weapon is a HD type 12 gage along with my little Saiga 410. By the reaction of those who have seen the weapon the coolness factor is pretty well pegged out to max ....but.... I am more into function over form....... The rest I will just have to wait and see how she holds up.

P.S. This is just a quick overview and first impression of the MKA 1919..Looking at the manual it does not appear to be to difficult to tear down for cleaning but it does require a common screw driver to remove the charging handle?? Again I have not as of yet torn the MKA 1919 down for internal inspection or cleaning due to time limitations today. I will post after cleaning.

Thank you for the review! This gun is definitely one that I am looking at. But I am holding back and seeing what the early adopters say (so again, thanks for sharing).

Plus, I would want to get an aftermarket drum (if/when they are available).

The funny thing about me is that I am one of these "tacticool" guys who like the looks almost more than reliability and function. I of course want firearms that are reliable, accurate, safe, etc., but I'll buy the cool-looking one of it is almost as good as a gun that is better in all those other aspects.

I don't think that I am a "mall ninja," I don't own much tactical gear, and I don't really want to be an operator (or pretend to be one), but I love guns that look bad-a**!

This one appears to look that way, esp. some of the early conversions I have seen. And your review also confirms it.

Also, here is a video on Youtube that shows the breakdown if you need help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpvbdIy6NPM

but I love guns that look bad-a**!

Judging by the others at the range that day (for some) their cool meter was totally pegged out to max.

Page one of the catalog has the all black and on page two is the black and camo.

Thanks for the youtuble link! All I have been able to do after the first range eval was come back and clean the bore! I still want to do a total break down and see if after 20 rounds anything inside is showing any kind of wear marks. Promise I will get around to it soon.

P.S. Just watched the video and my first thought was the bolt sets on the carrier like an SKS!!

http://youtu.be/EApXtOlt68U is another review which covers many of what I said only with pictures.

My feelings exactly all though I did not notice any cycling delay between shots but I am not a shotgun kinda guy. One thing they failed to mention (that "maybe" they were not aware of) is the replacement of the gas ring when shooting low brass or low power shot shells as recommended. Even with only five shots in a mag and rapid shots the controllability factor for the weapon "I felt" was pretty good and with good technique I could mostly get the thing back on target.

Thanks for taking the time to post an evaluation of this shotgun. My interest is there, just not the funds at this time.

One thing I did find out about the Mags. I had reported a problem with loading the 2 3/4 shot shells in the mag due to the mag lips. The bottom of the mags have 3" or 2 3/4 stamped. By loading the 2 3/4 in the 3" mags and 3" in the 2 3/4 the mag lips do not hang up on the brass of the shot shells as bad.....or my mags were not stamped correctly?? Anyway works better with this method.

This will very likely be my next shotgun. I am waiting to get one of the second batch of imports with a proper standard rail on top.

I also don't mind waiting while the aftermarket keeps rolling out more parts. 922r parts are coming along, so mags shouldn't be too far behind.

I'd like to add a Tromix stock adapter and a storm werks folding mechanism, not sure which stock yet. I also look forward to chaos rail. I had plans to get a tax stamp for one of my S12s but I think I'll SBS one of these instead.

It is surprising on how little recoil the weapon has in its current config and weight even with slugs and magnums.
