Howdy, all... be nice to the rookie, ok?

Have any of you dealt with AKJ Concealco ?
My wife and I are shopping for a holster for her 3" SP101. She requires deep concealment, (getting 'made' may cost her job) while at work, but also her greatest need for protection is while working. Her job takes her in to the homes and businesses of of strangers, often for one-on-one appointments. Job is good- and it will be even better with a method to 'control' the situation... should one arise.

We bought an Uncle Mike's IWB neoprene giddyupfor her to get the feel for IWB and to research what might be needed in a 'real' holster. Money wasted? Nah- we learned alot from it. We read the Cunningham site about finding a holster for ladies, as well as many threads here and at 1911forum. We have found the best fit for both comfort and concealbility is going to be with the grip at 3:00, with the pistol canted forward enough that the grip is vertical. This seems to be more cant than most leathermakers (?) use in their designs. The aggresive cant takes much of the muzzle-pushing-against-the-hip factor out of it. This AKJ holster seems to have enough adjustment in it to allow just such carry, but I haven't been able to contact anyone in three days of trying... Can anyone recommend them (keep trying) or another company to look at?

I have loked at:
brommeland,
Rafter S (ordered my 1911 IWB and a pair of belts for both of us)
Milt Sparks
Knull
shoot... (not really... wrong place to use such an exclamation) I can't remember them all, but I may have overlooked something, somewhere, anyway.

I have that holster for my 3" K frames with the sweat shield. You will find that the leather work is extremely good (better than my Galco) and it will be plenty stiff. I have not used it alot, but will in the future due to recent passage of a CCW law in Ohio. I can't vouch for the range of adjustability, as I haven't had a need to do that. The current sale prices are a steal for the quality you will receive. Have the owner (sorry I can't remember his name) add a couple more adjustment holes for you. I bet he'd be happy to do so. I ordered mine during the 1st mad cow scare and leather was scarce, so I did have a long turn around time. It was worth the wait.

Great- thanks, Randy!
I appreciate you taking your time to respond. I talked to andrew (I think) about his leather yesterday, but he's 8 weeks out. That kinda stinks, but I believe it's the best option for her to carry. I'll let you guys know how it works! (in a couple months):(

With that steep angle of rake...

It seems as though a bobbed-hammer on the Ruger would be darn near mandatory. Or, do you already have a slicked-hammer, DA-only model?

The gun is not a hammerless/ bobbed-hammer model. She has practiced drawing from this position out of her cheapie holster, but the difficulty in re-holster makes consistent practice difficult.

Do you suggest a bobbed/ hammerless model for drawing, or carry comfort? As far as carry comfort goes, the grip seems to be the most uncomfortable part for her, but it is TOTALLY concealed. I have to grab her around the waist to see if she's packin' in the house. (don't mind if I do- thank you!!) As she twists, the grip chafes, but with a T or tank under the gun, that's alleviated as well.

If for draw, the Ruger does have a pretty toothy hammer. We'll have to pay attention to that in practice.

I put in my order with concealco this afternoon... 4-8 weeks. Not bad for quality leather, I guess. He's going to put some extra adjustment in it for her so we can be sure to get it right.

Later, guys (and gals) -Derek

I have an IWB AKJ Concealco (with sweat shield) for my four inch Ruger GP-100. It is an EXCELLENT holster with fine leather, craftsmanship, and quality. I found the folks who run Concealco (a husband and his wife) to be very professional, decent and honest – and a real pleasure to do business with.

I have the Concealco for my 2 3/4" Ruger Speed Six. It is an excellent holster! I am very pleased with the security, concealment and comfort of this holster and am considering ordering another for a different gun. they were easy to deal with in ordering, although the wait time was about 6 weeks or so.

Overall, I am very please and would recommend them without hesitation.

BRBowtie: I've been wearing mine all day for S&G's - I forgot just how comfortable it is. This K frame just disappears.
I need a good IWB for a Gov't. mdl. I think I'll order soon while they're on sale.
Anybody thinking about it should not wait. Great stuff!;)

I have 3 of their holsters, and have another 2 on order at the moment. Andy Johnson is the best, nicest guy you could ever hope to deal with. The holsters are TOP NOTCH, and a darn good deal. I see holsters on that quality level selling for 1/3 more than what he gets. And the CS is outstanding. One time I didn't check the screws on my holster and one came out and got lost. Completely my fault. I called him up asking what kind to look for so I could replace it. he said not to bother. that day he sent me FOUR new screws, completely free of charge.

When my father and I got matching M&Pcompacts, My dad said he needed a holster. I immediately put in orders for both of us at AKJ.
I can't recommend him highly enough.

How's that for a review?

I bought one for my 3" SP101 on the advice of THR members and couldn't be happier with it. 8 weeks sounds about right - I asked for the sweatshield and rough side out. Even my holster collecting, galco worshipping friend was impressed! It's an unbeatable deal.

Wait, I didn't read your initial post well enough. The 3"Sp101 holster is one that Andy keeps on his "readyline". It'll be ready in 2-3 weeks.

I have my SP101 3" in an AKJ right now as a matter of fact. It really disappears with that holster.

I have five of Andy's creations. About the only "problem" I could come up with would be that now that his stuff is getting popular, it's taking longer for him to catch up.
They're worth the wait, though. I don't see how they could be any better made.
As for the above-mentioned rake angle question, most of his have multiple holes on the rear screw for adjustable rake. What more could you ask?
I do strongly recommend the sweat-shield, unless you get a thumbreak. Having been trained by an old copper, I tend towards the thumbreak and the Commander holster I'll be wearing tomorrow (once I leave my home state) has one. I practice with it and am okay with it.
The stories about the service and friendliness are no exaggerations.
Wonderful stuff.

I have one for a 2" k-frame and love it. My favorite for molded leather holsters would probably be the vm-2. If you go with a reputable maker, I don't think you can go wrong.

I have the AKJ Concealco for my 3" sp101 and I love it, wish I had one for all my carry guns. Been using it for 3 years with no problems, highly recommend it.
