Hey guys, I have a question for you. So I have swapped out the arsenal trigger on several of my AK's without incident. Tonight I am trying to put in a Tapco single hook in my Egyptian AKM. For the life of me, I can't get the safety out! When I pull up on the safety it hits against the trigger group and won't allow me to lift it high enough to work it loose. Does the safety even come out in an AKM? What am I doing wrong here? I've tried youtube and it seems as if nobody else has this problem! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Either the safety lug is hitting the right hammer spring leg, or you need to push the trigger forward while rotating the safety.

It's possible you may need to remove the trigger first, but I've never encountered an AK that needed the trigger out first.

Just look inside at the rear of the trigger while attempting to rotate the safety upward. You'll be able to see if the safety lug is contacting whatever is blocking it.

It's possible the right hammer spring leg slipped off the trigger and is underneath it, preventing the trigger from moving forward enough to clear the safety.

Norinco and Maadi AKs that shipped with full auto disconnectors will do this. The trigger/sear is left longer at the rear to prevent the safety lever from disengaging the disconnector. It doesn't leave enough clearance for the safety to rotate up. You'll have to pry the retaining spring away from the trigger pin and remove the trigger and disconnector first. The new trigger will allow the safety to install and remove the normal way.
