After moving to AL three weeks ago, I got my state permit last week. I'd been using my FL non-resident permit for the times we were down here looking for houses, and from the time we moved in until I got the AL permit.

What I haven't seen is a business with a no-guns sign. I've seen them in other states--shall issue states--but not here.

What's with that? Is it because AL has been discretionary issue for so long that the usual "blood in the streets" fears are completely gone?

I just moved to Georgia, and I haven't seen anything like a "no guns" sign anywhere...

Its wonderful.

They probably realize people who have a CCW have been through a thorough background check. That they are honest law abiding citizens. In some states you can't fix stupid.

If I see a sign saying no guns I turn around and never go back in them.If my gun isn't welcome then neither am I. Simply as that.

In the city I live in they say no to firearms in the city parks. However, the police I have talked to about this say that just as long as you are not up to no good not to worry. But I would not OC in of the parks.

Talk to a local LEO off the record where you live to see if they agree with this.

This is just CYA for the city should someone get harmed in a city park by a gun toten' bad guy. It gives the city a defense against being sued. I say this as a former city councilman.

Until Oct 2006, a background check wasn't ran by every county in Alabama. I know mine didn't. Both myself and my wife just paid our cash and got our permits in less than 10 minutes.

IIRC, new applicants and anyone whose permit has lapsed more than 6 months have to go through a check now.

Side story: We all know that sometimes people who can't pass a background check get their wife or girlfriend to get a permit so there will be a gun handy if needed. When we went to renew mine and get hers for the first time, the chief deputy simply said "Hell, if he's got one, give her one, too".

Because everybody has a gun in Alabama.
I'm really glad that isn't a true statement at times :D

In 1996, Quincy's resturaunts posted "No Guns" signs in Huntsville, AL. In 1997 you had to drive to Birmingham to find a Quncy's that was still open.

Our local Waffle House had a "No CCW" sign up over the counter. I didn't notice it until one day as I was paying to leave. I went home and wrote the company HQ.

I haven't been back to see if it has been taken down or not.
