On March 5, 2011, Alabama Open Carry is having it's first Statewide Meeting for 2011 in Birmingham. The meeting will be at Jim-N-Nicks BBQ at 2831 Greystone Commercial Blvd. The meeting starts at 2pm and all THR members in the area are invited to join in. Local news (paper, radio and TV) have been notified and may show up to cover the event. So far we have about 60 ALOC members and family set to attend.
The meeting is going to be held on that date because one of our members will be in court on the following Wednesday fighting for his RKBA. He was arrested on July 4, 2010 for the open carry of a rifle which is legal in Alabama. He was not charged with any weapons violation (because there isn't any), he was charged with disorderly conduct. Under the DC statute in AL there is no mention anywhere of weapons of any kind. But, that is the charge and he is fighting it which may lead to suing the city. The meeting/dinner is a show of solidarity from all the ALOC members throughout the state as well as any one interested in fighting for our RKBA.
