Alabama to extend gun deer season(maybe)!

I live in West GA, just a stones throw from AL. Deer populations in my area make driving at night a real hazard, so I'm all for reducing the herd a little more. I would like to see more focus on reducing does along with antler restrictions so that our bucks could have a little more time to mature.

I'm a little torn on baiting deer. Don't know if it's true, but I've read where deer herds concentrated over bait can lead to Chronic Wasting Disease.

If it doesn't pass, it will likely be in deference to the small game hunters. Our deer population is so large that an extended season will not have a negative effect nor will baiting(as mentioned,it goes on anyway). Car/deer colisions are so common now that no one even bothers to ask "what happened" just "did you kill it"?

A lot of people that I know do very little small game hunting until after deer season is over so as not to mess up their deer hunting and they are against the extended season because it will cut into their small game hunting or cut it out all together. Us meat hunters don't really care, I would rather have a nice tender doe than a old tough stinky buck with a big rack that will just take room on my wall.

I would not be opposed to hunting over bait, that is just more selective harvesting IMHO. Of course that is assuming that everyone will be responsable with their harvesting, but those who are not use bait anyway.

My comp is acting stupid and I can't fully open the link, or even the site.

Anyway, what I've been told they are planning on doing here is.....Start season at regular time (Iron Bowl weekend:confused:), then two weeks into season, stop for two weeks. Then resume season and "extend" season two weeks into Feb. That way you have the same amount of days, you just get to go two weeks into Feb. I'd rather them just simplify things and start season two weeks later, but they didn't ask me.

The Gov game and fish guy has formed a committee to look into baiting....They are "going to look at what other states are doing and find out what is working for them."
He said no changes would be made by this season....The way he worded it I'm not sure if he meant just baiting or season changes.

Just put some of these up and you'll be good to go.........to jail.:what:
