Although I live in NY state, I just got a PA CCW. That is accepted by Virginia, and I decided to vacation in VA.

BUT, it is not legal to carry in any restaurant that "serves alcohol".

I don't drink, so that didn't seem important to me, untill I got to VA. Yeah, fast food restaurants like Burger King don't serve alcohol, but my hotel restaurant does, as does amost any sit-down place I can find. :scrutiny:

Is there some kind of southern Baptist tea-totaler chain? Or are all ccw holders in VA eating in?

Yeah, it is a stupid law seeing you can legally OPEN carry in it, just no CCW. Members of the VACDL tried to get it overturned, But His Majesty, the Honorable and Most Worthy, God appointed Governor Vetoed it.

But the Great Govener granted permission for CommonWealth Attorneys to carry concealed in bars and resturants. Thank goodness I didn't vote for him

Not true. You just can't conceal, open carry is allowed. It's not illegal to drink while carrying, but it sure wouldn't set a very good example.
You can also check the Virginia forum at opencarry.org to see specific examples of people's experiences, recommendations of places to visit, and you might even run across one of our "open carry dinners".

Just strap it on on the outside rather than the inside and go have yourself a nice dinner.

Oh, my wife will like that...

... and by the way, I took my wife and 6yo daughter to the local public library today. The place was filled with lowlifes. They started moving next to the childrens' room, and I packed my family up and went. The security guard woke one up. About 6 were standing outside smoking as we left.

Good thing public libraries don't serve alcohol, or I'd be disarmed in the most dangerous place in Virginia!

dunno about anywhere else, but in alabama, carrying where alcohol is served or drinking while carrying (STUPID IDEA) voids your CCW permit and you are then carrying illegally, in a place where it is illegal to carry and under the influence of alcohol (also illegal). lots of repercussions and you would not be able to carry a gun legally again.

Governor Kaine vetoed several excellent firearms bills passed by the Virginia state legislature this year. Tomorrow, April 8, the legislature will vote on overriding those vetoes.
Details on the bills are at NRA-ILA, here:
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=4722

I just sent the following e-mail to my state delegate and state senator:
---
I am writing to encourage you to vote today to override Governor
Kaine's vetos of the set of very reasonable bills concerning firearms
in Virginia that the Legislature passed this session. Each bill stands
on its own merits, and all of them are good laws for our state.

I fully support SB1035 to let a Right-to-Carry permit holder to
carry concealed in a restaurant, as long as he or she does not consume
alcohol. The current law, requiring such permit holders to change from
concealed to open carry when entering restaurants is just plain silly.
Further, citizens who take the time to obtain concealed handgun
permits are shown to be the most diligent, responsible, and
law-abiding group of citizens in the state. Further, the Governor's
statement that allowing concealed carry in restaurants puts the public
at risk is totally illogical. If anything, since we are talking about
the actively law-abiding CHP holders, it makes the public MORE safe.

This would be a nice tourism bonus for me!!! VOTE, VA!!! :D

But we're not talking about Alabama, are we? His question was for Virginia carry.

absolutely right...but that has little to do with my point. If you are carrying while drinking, you are a F*&%$*# IDIOT.
