Hi all, you all have been so great with sharing info with me I found this interesting and thought I'd share it with you.

My e-mail to Sig Thurs Jan 17th 2008:

"I just purchased my first New Sig 226 w/ Night sights and a rail, and while looking it over it seems to have different markings than the 226 on your website. It has a German frame and there is no Stainless or other markings other than the Sig 226 on the slide. If I remember correctly (I am a Californian and must wait my 10 days so I do not have it right in front of me.) it did not have Stainless or Exeter, NH markings on the slide.

It is serial # :U778:):):)

Can you tell me a little more about my new Sig? Like if its not Stainless what is it? And is the warranty the same if its not Stainless/NH?

Either way I look forward to shooting it soon."

Sigs response Tues Jan 22nd 2008:

"Thank you for your email.

All of our P-Series pistols now have stainless slides, so we no longer stamp the slides as such. It also gives the slide a "cleaner" less cluttered look."

RFB

P.S. 7 Days till my new Sig and I'm starting to get antsy! ;) Is this normal?

Now, that is interesting....

The stainless machined slides were introduced when the .40/357 models were introduced. I think this also coincided with slide production that was done in the US as opposed to Germany.

Many SIG afficionados prefer the lightness and balance of the older carbon steel SIGs to the new stainless ones.

I have one of each and love them both :D

my father bought a CPO Sig P226 .40 last fall ('06) and it has a blackened stainless slide on an alloy frame. It does not have the rail.

Sig seems to have a few variations or progressions of slides. I've even heard of a few "Frankinguns coming out as CPOs, mix and match parts.

I have an 2 STs and I love them. The P226 I saw in the gun store the other day was all nitron, but did say Stainless on the slide. It's just your standard Sig P226
