All this talk about .22s for kids....how about us grown up kids?

I love centerfire, long distance shooting. I love my expensive Coopers. I love my tricked out AR15s.....but.....when I do a little rimfire shooting......I immediately harken back to the days of my youth. I always forget how much fun (plus cheap fun) a .22 can be.

Nothing better than being the scourge of clay pigeons and golf balls with my 8 year old son plinking by my side.

I was so impressed with my son's CZ 452 Scout that I ordered a CZ 452 Varmint for myself. I can't let the kid have all the fun.

I liked it so much, I have another rimfire under the tree! The new one is a little more versatile. It's the new Sako Quad w/.22lr and .17HMR barrels. Can't wait to see how "she" shoots!

I have always enjoyed a single shot .22 with iron sights, assisting with kids...err... okay it is the kids assisting me .

Marlin 60 with the Woodtone Finish (tm) - seems after some shot mine they had to have one too...

Browning Auto .22 rifle DROOL! I really really like these. When one is brought out by that fellow we call 'grandpa' - I can do some serious begging, whining, pleading, and carrying on to shoot it.


I still believe in .22 single shot rifles to teach new shooters, no matter how big the kid is, for correct basic fundamentals.
Fun Factor built in of course and lasts a lifetime...

I've got a Browning .22 auto I received for my 12th birthday. It's a lot of fun, but my favorite is my 1937 Walther Sportmodell V single shot. Solid as a Thuringer bank vault.

There's no amount to the satisfaction a man can have with his kids, a .22 and a couple of bricks of ammo.

Also, my local club used to have 15 Winchester mdl 52C rifles 'issued' to the junior program, from the DCM.
Those rifles were pure HEAVEN on Earth. Wow!!!

CZ is broadening their stock selection.

I'm a sort of a sucker for nice Maple. Bad lighting doesn't show what grade this is, but depending on what grade of Maple, I'd almost be tempted to spring for the extra $100.

Still got the Marlin 80C that was my Christmas present in 1954--plus a 'few" more fun .22s. Even managed to find a Springfield M1922 which I always thought was the ne plus ultra of classic .22 rifles.

When the kids were little I started them off with shortened single shots and aperture sights--first on paper and then to metal reaction targets. We had lots of fun and it's amazing how well they retained the basics.

Next thing I knew--time flew by and my daughter was shooting my M1A and my son the M1 Garand, and doing darned well...and boy was I proud!

I'm about to order a 452 Varmint and a scope for myself, or maybe the full-stock 452 with iron sights. Can't afford to shoot the big dogs as much, and perfect for the nearest indoor range (25-yd) when it's raining outside (the AR-15 is kind of loud and silly to shoot there).

I admit a certain soft spot in my heart fot 22lr. I have a 10/22 for silouhette, a 10/22 for hunting,(trail also!) a browning bl-22 for fun, and now a CZ 452 ZKM LUX trainer. The CZ irons are calibrated out to 200yds, so you can shoot about anything, and have a fun (and inexpensive) time of it! Best money I've spent on a 22 in years!!

i have a mossy 44 set up with a bipod and scope and a camo paint finish, my mini-sniper rifle. Even have a 1000 inch range set up at the pistol club with scaled targets. With match ammo and my dope book I canw ack red squirrels out to about 175 yards.

I've never had a fullstock civilian rifle. Even my sidelock muzzleloader is a halfstock.

I'm intrigued by the fullstock CZ's; they look kinda cool.

Tell me: what do you like most about them? Do they feel different when you shoot them? Are there any reasons not to get one?

I still vote that the Marlin 75C is the best thing going. It's the carbine version of the Model 60, and I've picked up three of them this year for $50-75, with the old squirrel-engraved stocks.

I thought I wouldn't like the tubular mags, and tried the Ruger first, but now I'm totally sold on Marlins. Since they constantly flow in and out of Texas pawnshops for as low as $50, there's no reason not to try one.

Well, it's more a matter of aesthetics than any particular functional reason. If you like to have your hand way forward, the extra wood can be nice. Meantime, I just like the way it looks.

Any reasons NOT to get one? It has a 20" barrel instead of a 24", if that matters to you. Still, I can shoot <2MOA at 100yd (outdoors) with the irons, so I can't say I actually care.

If you are like me and have extremely limited financial resources and you want to shoot every week, you just have to shoot .22 as a matter of economic necessity. I alternate between "centerfire" and "rimfire" Saturdays. Five years ago when I was rolling in cash, I almost never shot my .22 rifles and pistols, now they are mainstays of my firearms self-training program.

Economical hell...

The joke about reloading is that you tell your spouse you're getting into reloading so you can shoot more cheaply, but the real reason is to be able to shoot more while spending the same amount of money.

It kind of applies to rimfire—I shoot CCI Standard Velocity almost exclusively, and being semi-premium ammo, it costs me a solid 5c a round. It's slightly more than half as expensive per round as the surp 8mm and '54R I shoot all the time, which means I can shoot twice as much of it while doing the same amount of damage to my budget.

(Oh, and I can actually keep up good groups all day.)

100/200/300 yard range....loud...muzzle blast central...the 39 part of the 7.62x39 four stations away up side of your head...to many guys flinching from more than they handle but what they read is a "must have"...where follow thru comes after the shot and when you try and find your brass...sometimes stinkly with blackpower or something from the Wolf werks--2 times a day someone with a bleeding eyebrow

50 yard rimfire range....voices at conversational levels overheard thru the muffs...where the scope on the rifle is goood enough to be a spotter... laughing kids killing paint balls and bb-gun clays....serenity by comparison.

Oh yeah....kinda like those rimfires.
