I recently wrote to Alliant because I haven't seen any 2400 in over a year.
I asked if they're still making it.
I thought some of you would appreciate seeing their response.
Here's their reply

Jeffrey,

We are still making this propellant and all the rest. We make 18 different propellants at the New River Energetics (NRE) facility. 2400 is one of those made at NRE. NRE had been running 24/7 for years and at full capacity. Batches of propellant that used to last us 6-8 months today are not lasting 6-8 weeks and in the case of 2400, I don't think the last batch lasted 4 weeks. The last batch hit the shelves in early August and by mid-September, I was again getting calls as to where this could be found again. And those calls have not stopped.

Hopefully with the changing political climate, supplies will start to stabilize in the market.

Thanks,

Duane V.

I hear you Hondo.
Since the day of Sandy Hook - over 4 years, I have found two cans of 2400.
Both were at shows and fair market price.
Have not seen a can of 2400 in any LGS or store since SH at all.

I can buy all the 296 or H110 I could carry today, but...
my guess is that we here on this thread are not the only ones
who know what a truly useful, versatile, and (most importantly) accurate powder
2400 is.

Picked up two pounds yesterday at my local lgs he had a couple left. Have heard it is good for 44mag going to give it a try.

It's in my area now . I have seen it at a couple of different stores . I picked up some .

Bought 2 1# jugs at Reloading Unlimited for $24.99 last week. 3rd Generation Shooting Supply has it today for $20.29 today for 1# jugs and $141.29 for 8# jugs.

Hondo, thanks for sharing that! I too, was thinking the same. I asked the guy at the LGS and he says he hasn't seen 2400 for a while. I don't look as often online as I had before.

I since have bought 2 lbs. of 300 MP and some Blue Dot. But I haven't had the time to work up any loads with them.

I sure hope they are right. 4 lbs. would keep me happy for a while. :)

IMR 2400 is my favorite powder for magnum revolvers; and I've been out quite a long time. A couple loads do use H110 and Blue Dot but 2400 does it all. Sad days.

I bought 16 lbs of 2400 from Recobs a while back, looks like they still have it in stock. 2400 is my favorite for 44 magnum

Thanks to Jo Jo for the links.

As a disabled vet, money's tight - especially seeing I bought 3 guns this year. ( a Walther PPX in 40 S&W, a Taurus PT-22 & a Phoenix HP22A)
Gonna have to wait til next month to order any.
If I could get a lb or 2 locally it'd sure be nice.

Gotta order quite a bit to justify the hazmat. :(

Something to notice, none of the ammunition manufacturer's are increasing production capacity. They are using the same production lines but running them with three shifts. I got to talk with the Eley ammunition representatives at the Small Bore Nationals, they were doing the same thing. The reason they were not expanding production capacity was because they thought this incredible demand for ammunition was a bubble. They are also making huge profits, you know, the law of supply and demand. They are not particularly increased in increasing supply as they are making so much from the demand. I know Eley raised the price of case of Black Box every year about $100 a year from 2013.

The thing with rimfire is the cost of the equipment and training. It takes 2-3 years to bring a rimfire production facility online and 7-10 years before you can even start thinking about making a profit on it. With that in mind it's understandable why companies are loath to build more capacity.

I've got plenty of 2400. I need/want some Unique.
