Anyone know the penalty for an out of state resident bringing a side by side trap gun into New York City?
I am beginning to think that most THR members stop and offer their vehicles and persons up for police inspection daily.
If you had took your trap gun through NYS the penalty would be the same as taking a 4 foot 2"x4" board or a flamethrower through, zero. If you had taken a machine-gun, short-barrel-rifle, hand grenade or pointy stick through, the penalty would have been nothing.
Now, if you got shooty (or burny/stabby/bonky) in public with one of those things, you would obviously draw attention to yourself and actual penalties might ensue, but losing sleep over laws prohibiting casual possession is getting about as old as the perpetual caliber debates and "will my clip's springs ware out or loose tenshen if I leave clips filed overnite?" threads. Act like a citizen and you don't get searched too often. If you DO get searched, rest assured, many police can't tell if someone being detained is in posession of handguns:

I rather doubt they will be able to spot a cased shotgun as you drive by.
As far as the impending "you didn't have to read my silly thread" comment, perhaps if you had used a descriptive title on it I wouldn't have ... I read because I thought there might have been a safety issue or a firearm almost damaged, not an accidental moving across an invisible boundary of an inanimateness object.
