Anyone ever tried the Altamont polymer j frame grips? They look interesting and I would like some feedback on your thoughts of them in the recoil department.
Altamont is a small but highly regarded company that firearms companies (including Smith & Wesson in particular) go to when they need something for special or limited runs of certain models, where the current molded rubber kind won't cut it.
They may sometimes seem to be expensive, but I will say that if they meet Smith & Wesson's requirements you will likely be satisfied.
Not a J frame, but I have Altamont grips on a K frame model 10 and an N frame model 29. I haven’t had them long enough to speak to durability, but they seem to be good quality and a perfect fit on both.
Got the "rosewood" grips on a J frame, took a little filework to get one panel fitted. Fine now and slicker out of the pocket than the rubber factory grips, which came apart from their plastic frame after a couple of years carrying. They are heavier though.
I got some for the k-frame as well as the bisley ruger grips and even 1911. I have found them to be decent , if you want something different but wont break the bank, but at least to me they are not "premium" grip makers and the price reflects that.
