Do you have a bullet brand and powder that you always find yourself using?

I do, in my handgun loads at least. I use Hornady XTPs with Bullseye powder for all the handgun calibers I load for (.25 ACP, 9mm Makarov, 9mm Largo)...

.25 ACP= 35 gr Hornady XTP, 1.7 gr Bullseye, 985 FPS

9mm Makarov = 95 gr Hornady XTP, 4.1 gr Bullseye 1040 FPS

9mm Largo = 124 gr Hornady XTP, 5.0 gr Bullseye, 1177 FPS

Note: These are Max loads, if you give them a try please be careful...

I have tried other bullet brands (Speer, Serria) and other powders (Unique, 700-X, Red-Dot), but this combo is the one I always go back to...

I'm trying to standardize on powders strictly because I am tired of having bunches of different half full handgun powders around. Right now it's Titegroup and 110, but I'm begining to believe I need something like Power Pistol in the middle. Like I said I'm trying.

Bullets are different. I buy lead bullets in large quantities, but jacketed stuff goes but quickly enough at 100 per box.

I seem to always load 380 auto with 88 grn rem JHP's and 4.0 grns of Unique, cci500 primers and normally starline brass. 45 acp seems to have settled on 4.9 grns of bullseye, 230 grn Rem FMJ, cci300 primer, starline brass. 38 special is starting to converge on Lasercast 158 grn SWC's with titegroup, but I am still experimenting.

I just dont like the way titegroup is so barren in the case on 38 special.

All of the rest are sort of in flux, like 10mm 40s&w, 357sig, 9mm, 357mag.....

I have been tring to simply the numbers of different powders I have laying around the house. Down to one pistol powder, Bullseye ... One shotgun powder Solo 1000. Not there yet with the rifle stuff.. Have H4895 & H335. Just got 16 pounds of Gov surplus. If that works out, I'm only using it due to the costs savings...

Well David, up to a couple of weeks ago, I
would have voted for Magnus hard cast SWC type
bullet's; but upon closer examination of the Zero
Bullet Companys 158 grain swagged L-BBSWC
I would have too vote for them.

As far as powders are concerned, my favorite is
Alliant Unique; although its a bit dirty, but very
versatile. I also use a lot of Alliant Bullseye, and
Hodgdon Universal Clays.

.45 ACP - Hodgdon Universal Clays and 230g FMJ or TMJ (not picky about the brand, but often Berry's, Rainier or Star)
.38 Special / .357 mag - Titegroup and 158g LSWC (usually Pheonix Bullets brand)
.308 win - H380 and 168g Sierra BTHP

It's way past time I pruned down my powders!!!

I used to only use Bullseye, 2400, and Red Dot. Oh and Vhit N-133 for .223.

Currently I have on my shelves ... wait for it!! ......

Bullseye, Unique, Red Dot, Green Dot, N-133, N-340, N-130, N-140, N-110, Lil'Gun, Varget, H-110, 2400, some old Reloader 7, and a huge jug of IMR SR 4759 (for cast rifle loads). Oh and a big jug too of Solo 1000 for shottie.

WAY too many!! Mind you, I am switching to H-110 for big stuff and it'll serve for .454 too. Plan to experiment with Varget, and Lil'Gun. I guess I'll gradually whittle it down .. got to. probably use up some for plinking loads over time ... either that or some will still be there when I pop off!! :D

variety is the spice of life.

I used to think that I wasn't going to buy tons of different powders but I think that I like tinkerin'

I currently stock Bullseye, Red Dot, Unique, H-110,Win 231, Univ Clays, Solo1000, Power Pistol, Win 760 for the .243 and a 5lb keg of Win452AA from 25 yrs ago that i am trying to use up.

I see that hogdon stole my idea and is now selling sampler packs of powder with 4 - 4 oz containers. They only seem to make them for rifles now. Maybe they will offer pistol powders soon.

As a side note I also seem to have as many different primers. I've got 1000+ of each; Win small pistol, win large pistol, win large rifle, win small pistol mag, win 209. Man, this hobby is outta control

dave.

On the XTP's yes, I use them in all my hangun calibers, but not with bullseye. I use mostly blue dot, 2400, 296, and n110(38+p, 357, 41, 44, 454).

Total # of different powders for rifle and pistol? Let's see..........14.

Standard powder for all handgun loads, standard bullets for each caliber, standard primers, standard loads. Life has been simplified.

I tried to simplify...

Untill I got a chronograph :)

Now it seems I can't go within 30 miles of the gun shop without bringing home a pound of something new and a couple boxes of assorted bullets for my caliber of the week to play around with.

I think that my reloading is starting to turn into some kind of illness :D
