Seriously, when I look at my otherwise beloved G30, the first thing that pops into my mind is "NO disassemble, Stephanie!"

Those damn sliding buttons. . . how in the world do you get those to work consistently? Do I just have soft, fat fingers? I retract the slide, I press down the sliding buttons, I release the slide, it goes about 1/4" farther forward than normal and stops dead. I reset and try again, same thing. I take the slide further back, same thing. I work it a little shorter, same deal. I use the other hand to push down the sliding controls . . . . no dice.

Nothing I do makes this stinking slide separate from the frame except plain dumb luck. Tonight I have sat here for at least 15 minutes struggling with the stupid thing, and I'm beginning to have serious thoughts about trading it away. Frankly it's bringing issues with the chunky grip to mind!

A SIG P245 or 225 wouldn't give me this headache every time I try to strip the thing--just pull the slide back, flip the switch down, and bring the slide forward and right off the frame. And it would be flatter and smaller in the fanny pack, especially with a single-stack magazine strapped to the top of the holster inside rather than the brick of a Glock 10-round.

Talk me down, people, I'm freaking out here!

Don, I don't want to insult you by asking, but, um, are you pulling the trigger before you retract the slide?

Mr. Gwinn Sir,

Up Front let me state- I don't personally own a Glock, I have shot them. I admit I am not that smart. Give me a Super X Model 1 and I can take apart and put back together blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back...

It ain't cheating if it works - called ingenuity I shoot other folk's Glocks, other folks guns - I let them clean them. :D

Of course I am the guy that hands my Gunsmith buddy my gun(s) to clean while I go shoot the new Caspian frame and slide he just built, grab something else to go play with, try for myself that new ammo...etc.

I can look real dumb and innocent..."Let me shoot that Glock to see how the new night sights work....here check my gun to see if it needs lube or something...out back I run to go shoot...I drink up his coffee, help myself to his Cokes too while I am there...

" Now show me one more time how you take that Glock apart"..., <drinks coffee, looks stupid, and grinning>

Works for me - I like simple.

Don, I don't want to insult you by asking, but, um, are you pulling the trigger before you retract the slide?

I was thinking that too, but hesitated to ask....a couple times I forgot to pull the trigger and it moves forward a little and sticks.....drop mag, check chamber, pull trigger, ease the slide back just a hair, push the buttons and mine come right off every time......tom

Oh, for the love of . . . .Kathy, you should be ashamed of yourself for even asking such a thing.

Am I pulling the trigger? Am I pulling the trigger?

Heck no, I didn't pull the trigger.

Maybe it's been a little too long. I swear upon my ancestors there was a time when I would have known to do that.

Well, yeah, that's a good point! I've only owned the pistol for, like, three years, max.

Wait, wait, not helping. . . .

Would it be unethical to delete this?

If so, is it too late to pass this off as an early April Fools?
:uhoh:

No, really, it's been months since I gave any thought to stripping this gun. I just completely dropped that vital bit of information out the bottom of my skull.

Ahhhh, glad it was something simple.

For the sake of any newbies reading the thread, the correct sequence for taking down a Glock is as follows:

Drop the magazine.
Rack the slide, unloading the chamber.
Rack the slide again.
Rack the slide again and lock it open.
Check by sight and feel to make sure there is no round hiding in the chamber.
Gently lower the slide.
Point the gun in a safe direction and pull the trigger.
Retract the slide just about an inch, no further.
Pull down the "damn sliding buttons" and ease the slide forward off the frame.

***

To put it back together again, just slide the slide back onto the frame, taking care to line up the rails. Rack it a time or two and double check that everything feels right and the trigger is working.

Don, we'll let you live it down ... in a year or two. ;)

(Seriously, you oughtn't delete it. You know there's some poor confused newbie who is thrilled you asked!)

I love the way the Glock comes apart. It is far easier and faster than most other methods, IMO. I just grip the gun with my right hand, thumb on the arch of the grip, fingers over the top of the slide. Just press the thumb slightly, pull the tabs down with the left hand and let go of the slide.

Don,

This one you can live down... but don't let us find out about you putting the slide on the pistol without the barrel, just to see.... 'cause that one is a bit trickier to remedy! :scrutiny:

Thanks for the chuckle... :D

From all of the Glock lovers on this site, I figured that the way to clean one would be: shoot it until it is red hot, drop in a mud puddle to cool it off, back over it with your truck to make sure that greasy grimy gopher guts get squished into every oriface.
Reload.
Repeat.
Brag to friends! :D

This is funny.

However, being a brand-new Glock owner myself, (couldn't pass up a great deal last week), I'll learn by your mistake and try not to repeat it. I might even read the owner's manual, as well.

Take a kid shooting,

How ANYBODY who is capable of ANY gun assembly or disassembly at all can say that disassembling a Glock is "hard" is beyond me.

They're the single EASIEST type of handgun to FULLY disassemble, not only to "field strip".

I can't understand why so many people complain about disassembling a Glock? I can detail strip a Glock in significantly less time then one of my 1911s takes - and reassemble it even faster.

Why does my AR have so many little parts? My Glock doesn't?

It's the simplest hangun to assemble or diassemble I've ever seen. Just as easy as kissing your sister. ;)

Don, those "two sliding buttons" are ONE PIECE OF STEEL! It's one solid bar!

It has to be at the bottom of the frame, and clear of the barrel, "locking tab", or whatever term you'd care to use.

First and foremost, I think you should study an exploded view of your Glock, and really understand what's going on there.

After that, it's a piece of cake.

In the mean time, relax, breath, and try not to lose your composure. ;)

I kind of have a different idea that I use on my Glocks. Seems a little faster and less cumbersome.

1) Check the gun about 10x to make sure that a magazine is NOT inserted and there is no round IN the chamber.

2) Retract the slide and lock it to the rear by pushing up on the slide lock lever.

3) With the slide locked to the rear; depress both of the disassembly levers with the index finger and thumb.

4) With both of the disassembly levers depressed with the index finger and thumb; drop the slide with the other hand using the slide release lever

5) While continuing to depress the disassembly levers with both the index finger and the thumb; pull the trigger with your other hand.

6) The slide ass'y should gently nudge forward when the trigger is released and can be easily be pulled forward off of the frame.

Try it. You just might like it.

You de Man Don!

I like you're not too proud to admit a mistake. I'd shoot with ya anytime... but you have to do the cleaning. ;)
