On a pistol of course.
Ive tried reflex style and a Bushnell TRS-25 which is supposedly a 25mm but looks more like a 20mm tube.

A few months back i sold my S&W .22a with a $30 Tasco 30mm red dot that i could do 2" groups at 75' all day. I did that to fund a new Buckmark pistol but ended up with a sexy Ruger MKIII 22/45 5.5" bully in blue.

Soon as i bought that gun i ordered a reflex sight from Sightmark.
I found the reflex sight too dim and suffered from glare also. Im sure there are other reflex sights that may be better but im not digging the design in general.
The TRS-25 was like looking threw a 1" rifle scope with 16" eye relief, But the 3MOA dot is perfect. I just had a hard time staying on target with such a small sight picture.
Luckily a few months back i found another cheap $29 Tasco 30mm on sale and bought it just for a backup and to play with on my airsoft guns.

But now its big heavy butt is on my 22/45 and i like it better than anything else.
Ill admit i wouldn't mind a sharper 3MOA dot and ill keep looking for one.

Now my TRS is on my S&W 22/15 as a canted secondary to my magnified scope and the reflex sight is sitting on my shelf.

Anyone find any "GREAT" 30mm red dots? I know id like to see what else is out there. I don't find low magnified scopes an option for my pistols as i find them too hard to get comfortable with.

Trijicon does a 30mm red dot, if you have the means.

If you're short on funds, Burris has both sport ($200ish) and tactical ($250ish) 30mm red dots.

For a .22 plinking at the range I imagine a tasco would be fine, though. It won't have to contend with recoil or be subject to hard use. Personally I prefer the low-magnified optics, but my only experience there is with a Leupold m8 2x. It offers generous eye relief and actually feels brighter and crisper than looking downrange without a scope, so with both eyes open my focus is naturally through the crosshairs. Only trouble is that you have to have consistent head alignment or else the picture goes black, so a consistent stance and a steady hand are a must.

I have a 30mm Nikon Monarch on my Taurus LBR .45acp. I have recently bought a Barska red dot with x2 lens, I would highly recommend checking one out.

When it comes to optics on pistols, there is a reason why C-More dominates the field.

One exception I can think of is Bianci Cup. There are a lot of tube red dots on the line, but I don't think the larger 30mm is as popular as the smaller ones.

If those are too big (obvioiusly not the case for the OP), there is always the Dr Optic and similar mini-dots.

The most common quality 30mm red dot sights in my Bullseye pistol leagues are Ultra Dots. I particularly like the Match Dot model because you can select 4 different dot sizes (I think only the 2 and 4 minute sizes are useful for Bullseye competition, but that's beside the point).

DasFriek: I own many, TruGlo is best bang for the buck

The title says it all.
I wear progressive lenses and if I look at the dot through the bottom of my lenses the dot looks like a smudge.
Through the distance lenses the dot is round and crisp.

Red Dots put everything (sights) at the target distance, eleminates sight alignment, and is great for training new(and old) shooters trigger control.

Just my opinion, yours may vary,

Thats one issue i have, My vision isn't the best and a new set of glasses should be on my to do list. I cant use iron sights at all and pretty much limited too 25' with them on handguns and i can get 50' with my shotgun.

There is some good suggestions for sights tho, Most out of my price range if i was in the market for a new one.

Out of the ones mentioned the Nikon Monarch VSD Dot Sight and the Ultra dots, But i think the field of view is what id prefer with the Nikon.
But at $200 im gonna have to want it pretty bad.

I did make a sunshade for my reflex sight and ill test that out the next sunny day im shooting. It does have a better 3MOA dot and not bad FOV.

Guess I do it all wrong - I focus on the target, not the sight - whether shotgun or pistol - I trust me hands to work with my eyes to point the gun at the target

DasFriek: Dicks has TruGlo 30mm Red Dot for less than $50

It's where I bought mine.
I also own:
UltraDot
Berska
Tasco
etc.

TruGlo has the best mounting hardware of all the cheapies.

When pushing my eyes to their limits which is 50' somewhat comfortably and 75' is pushing it the size and clarity of the dot is important. But if i have a small field of view and washed out dots i have issues.
With iron sights its all just a blurry mess past 25' tho.
Im not looking to buy at the moment, But a local shop has the Trueglo's for $39.
