Has anyone seen a commercial Ambidextrous LOW MOUNT Thumb Safety for a 1911? We have someone asking for that and none of us have ever seen one. Internet searches bring up the Low Mount or "Gunsite" safety but none in ambidextrous format. Were they ever made or are they still available from ???
Thank you people :D

The only one I've seen started as a regular ambidextrous thumb safety that had had the levers cut off and re-welded in the lowered position. With the low mount, you can easily activate the left side lever with your trigger finger

I don't think there was ever one commercially available

I have heard of a single-sided one like this, but not an ambidextrous.

I have never been comfortable with my thumb held high, on top of the thumb safety. It seems to loosen my grip on the gun, especially with a one-hand hold, and the grip safety - which is perfectly comfortable with my thumb low - beats up on my thumb joint.

I stand corrected, now I've seen one.

Here's another from Dawson Precision and also from Brownells

Thanks for the replies. But none of the suggested safeties are Low Mounted or Gunsite safeties. They are all extended safeties with "shields" - not what we are looking for. We are building a couple on request but we are fairly certain that commercial variations are not made.
