A friend bought a PMR-30 (Kel-Tec) and sent this pic of a tag inside the case.

I recall hearing some chatter of firing out of battery with some foreign made ammo due to the slide face impacting the rim while cycling.

Another thread a guy said his CMMG warranty said no steal case ammo.

Correct it is in reference to the warranty..should have made myself more clear.

Oh, wow, that sucks, no Eley, what about repackaged Winchester and Remington, no PPU or S&B. Does Wolf Gold have target Eley in .22 mag.

Winchester does outsource some of their ammunition production, for a while a lot of the 5.56 white box was made in Korea.

The Delton AR I used to own said no steel cased ammo, no laquer, etc. So anything cheap couldn't be used.

Its a way for them to cut down on fixing guns that don't work properly by blaming the ammo and not the firearm. The fine print in the warranty usually sucks.

In my visit to Kel Tec this past July. I spoke to Rick Mueller the production manager when he worked on my 3 Ket Tecs. The reason for them making a specific American Ammunition recommendation is that it is controlled under SAAMI specs and foreign ammunition is not. So you can stop all the random speculations now. It is done for the your safety using their firearm products.

What DonRon said. Would be very interested in a shooting report. These are very attractive pistols, but early production has had some problems. Some related to the foreign ammo.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Point being, I bought a case of S&B 45acp fmj. It shot well but it sure is a lot hotter than Federal, Winchester or Remington. I think some ammo is loaded hotter in Europe.

We still make our own ammunition. That is just something you don't outsource.. think about it a while.

I would be willing to bet that you have shot of some of that Hollow Point whiz bang junk that they have target marketed at you at absurd prices as well.

I think American ammo is great, perhaps the best on Earth. This does not mean that some foreign made ammo, particularly from the European Union, is not outstanding quality too.

yep, thats what my pmr30 had in it also. and i knew about it before i bought it also. is he complaining? hope not, it bothers me when some one buys a performance car and then complains that they specify premium gas and they want to use the cheapest stuff. cci isnt that much more than the overseas stuff.

If by great, in reference to rimfire, you mean mediocre, you are totally right. That is why competitions are banging down the door the Remington, Federal, Winchester, and CCI to get their "target" grade ammunition and leaving Eley, Lapua, Wolf and S&K behind.
Europe makes THE BEST rimfire ammunition in the world, bar none. If it wasn't for CCI, and to a smaller degree federal, U.S. made rimfire ammo would be 90% useless. Heck, even Mexico makes a good produce in Aquila.

As for the Kel Tec. Stick with quality ammo and you will be fine. I think Kel Tec would rather you use Eley or Wolf than Remington any day.

Because foreign ammo does this:

I think a triple load of bullseye (or something similar, I am speculating) by a careless reloader is to blame for that bit of carnage.

It's funny. I'll go out of my way to buy American autos and motorcycles but I shoot a lot of foreign ammo. I try to buy American (in everything) as much as possible but I can shoot 2-3 times as much by buying foreign ammo. I'm buying ammo for 3 shooters and none of us are going to shoot 2" groups at 25 yds. Ammo is disposable and there's a limit to what I'll pay for plinking. If I'm shooting from the bench I'll pay a bit more or if I'm buying hollowpoints I'll definately buy American. The American ammo industry doesn't seem to be hurting.

This is from Olympic's AR-15 Manual from http://www.olyarms.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=22&Itemid=30,
note #2
1. Use only U.S. made, SAAMI approved, new production, brass cased ammunition.
2. DO NOT use imported ammunition of any kind. Read the labels carefully.
3. DO NOT use factory reloaded ammunition.
4. DO NOT use steel case ammunition of any kind.
5. DO NOT use hand loaded ammunition.
6. ONLY USE caliber specific ammunition designed for use in your AR15.

It's lawyer talk, it helps give them a loophole if something goes kaboom.
