My dad bought an American Classic off Davidsons, http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/...matic+Pistol&cal=45AP&fin=&sit=&zipcode=97459, and we shot it for the first time today. It jams on the 6th round every time but only on the 6th round. By jam I mean it wont eject the 6th round and load the 7th. Casing wedged in the slide the first time and scratch the bluing up which had my dad pretty discouraged. I think it's a magazine issue but I have zero experience with 1911's and I know there are many of you on here who know this weapon inside and out. We were shooting old mil-surplus ammo but it looks like winchester white box to me. My Ruger P90 was shooting in fine ran an entire box with zero failures. Don't know if that's saying much though cause I'm pretty sure that gun could shoot rocks it just always works!! :)

that's too funny! I had one that did the same thing with the 6th round, not every time but it did it. Try a different mag. It fixed mine. I used a Colt mag.

Try a different mag. Also check for interference between rounds being loaded into the chamber or extracted from the chamber and the nub on the slide lock that protrudes into the frame.

Alright so far you guys are comfirming my guess and I hope thats all it is because thats an easy enough fix. Will pretty much any 1911 mag work or should I look for Colt brand?

The factory mag I got with the pistol feed fine and the after market colt worked fine also. Before I shot mine I did tear it down and really lube with Breakfree CLP. Also ran some Breakfree down the inside of the mag and used a dowel to work the spring of the mag maybe 30 times. I thought the mag was tight and did not move as free as I wanted it to. The breakfree has PTFE (Teflon) and after a few squirts and the dowel action a few times it smoothed out and seemed to slide freely. The Breakfree will sooner or later seem dry but do not worry there is still Teflon remaining. I have never had a problem with mine but have only shot it a couple of hundred rounds. Try the dowel and breakfree before you toss the mag. My experience with Breakfree CLP is it goes well on just about everything except a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

When i got my American Classic I had problems feeding as well, fixed instantly with use of a Wilson 47 magazine. Those mags are like voodo magic! Best $22 ive spent.

Congrats and welcome to the Metro family!

Alright guys thanks for the advice and I'll work on trying to find a 1911 mag locally but my chances are pretty slim. Pretty much have to order everything around here unless it can be bought at Wal-Mart. Ya it's pretty frustrating but I'll update this after I find/order one.

My Springfield loaded 1911 started doing the same thing after I shot 200+ rounds and the mag started getting dirty. I ordered a couple of Tripp mags and replaced the guts of the stock magazines with Tripp internals and have never had another problem. I've done shooting sessions of over 300 rounds with the Tripps and they just keep working.

Here is a definitive article on mags for the 1911...Hilton Yam has updated it recently

http://www.10-8performance.com/1911_Magazines.html

My personal choice in my 1911 has been the Chip McCormick PowerMags as the best balance of performance and value

Do you get a nickel for every referral to Yam's site? LOL

I am in agreement with you on the PowerMags as a great value. I have never had an issue with them and they come in much cheaper than Wilsons.

About the same as I get when I make a Apex Tactical referral for revolver or M&P work :p

I keep hearing good things about the Metalform mags (with the rounded followers), but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Surprisingly it is cheaper to get them is from Ed Brown Custom than Brownells :scrutiny:

Your scratch might just be a streak of brass. If you're lucky it may wipe off without damage to the finish. Just use a soft cloth and your favorite gun cleaner, don't use anything the least bit abrasive.

Found a Colt magazine today at the local gun shop he also had Wilson mags I was very suprised. It didn't stop raining all freaking day though and have to work till the weekend so won't get a chance to try it out until then. While at the shop he also got a pretty good deal on a little .22 mag Charter Arms revolver for my mom. :)

If the gun jams on a specific cartridge every time it is almost always the magazine.
After trying several wunder mags from various sources I have gone back to using Rampant Horse genuine Colt magazines and nothing but in my 1911s.

Ok got a chance to shoot the gun today and with the Colt mag it's working perfectly!! Thanks everybody for your input!

Ok just a little update. For whatever reason the problem returned even with the Colt mag. Luckily it was bought through Davidson's Gallery of Guns and they gave my dad the option exchanging it for a brand new one or for credit towards another gun. My dad is a lot like me and when a new to us brand fails out of the box we kinda lose faith in that brand. Same thing happened to me with Taurus but thats another story. Long story short he now has a Glock 36 which is the slim single stack .45acp and he couldn't be happier. Literally took it out of the box no break down and cleaning or anything and shot 100 rounds through it flawlessly. It really is a great gun and I'm going to get one for myself also. We've bought many guns through Davidson's but this is the first time trying to use their warranty and let me tell you they are great to deal with. No questions or pressure to try and get it fixed the only thing they care about is what they have to do to make you happy and i couldn't be happier with them as a company!!

I think that you just proved to your self that there is a certain amount of truth to the assertion that at certain price points, when purely seeking functionality, that the 1911 might not be the best route to pursue

You don't have a magazine problem. You have an extractor problem. Increase the tension a little and see if that doesn't help. If not, the hook may be a bit too long...but don't take a file to it. 3-4 swipes with a medium India stone, and lightly breaking the corners should do it.

I disagree, of the many lower cost 1911's on the market, through many forums including 2 exclusively 1911 forums, Metro Arms American Classics have less complaints than most every 1911 on the market, in my experience.

Granted, original box magazines aren't excellent examples, but they don't make them anyway. And from what I've seen on-line, their service locations are doing great at taking care of their customers, IF they need after sale service.

To the OP, Michael T posts here, he also has a forum for Bersas at www.bersachat.com, he can steer you to the service providers. I've had a Metro Arms AC II for several years, with no issues, after getting different magazines. But the problem does sound like an extractor issue. Get them to fix it, and I'm sure you'll enjoy this pistol.
