American Rifleman "Top 10 Rifles of All Time"

I hope this isn't a duplicate, I couldn't find a thread on it.
In the current issue of American Rifleman they announced in September they will be doing a "Top 10s" issue, that will also be on American Rifleman TV. They also will be revealing the reader's Top 10 votes (for the best standard issue infantry rifle, and sporting rifle of all time) from their website. That's where you come in: Click Here. The poll is on the right hand side of that page. Currently there are only about 260 votes.
I'm not sure why it's a Top 10 poll when only 5 examples of each category are listed, but oh well. You can also chime in on other rifles you think are deserving. For Infantry Rifles, the choices are: M-16, AK-47, M1 Garand, Gewehr 98, and other. For Sporting Rifles: Remington 700, Winchester Model 70, Winchester 94, Ruger 10/22, and Other.

Thanks for the link. I went and cast my own biased opinions. The final vote tally will be interesting. I almost would be willing to bet that the M1 and model 70 come out on top for their respective groups.

I voted AK47 and 10/22. I can understand the votes for the Garand and the 700 though.

FAR too many deer killed by a 30-30 94 to ignore its importance.

I received my issue of American Hunter mag a couple of days ago and it details their Top 10 lists. I did find the lists interesting and discovered just how few of the named firearms I owned. Oh well. The Model 700 Remington is No. 1 on my list.

I had to vote for 'other' and the Winchester model 70.

I think I'd call the FN-FAL the finest infantry weapon.

As for sporting guns, the 700 doesn't do much for me - it lacks soul. The 10/22 is fun but the only thing distinguishing it from every other .22 semi-auto plinker is that you can replace every piece of it. The Winchester 94 is wonderful for what it is, but what it is is a little limited.

The classic model 70 is just about everything a bolt action rifle should be. It's just mechanically and ergonomically right.

Take any idiot, show them even a picture or something of those guns and they will recognize them as "Cowboy" or "Terrorist" right away. That is ICONIC, no other rifles can claim that status.

Avg Joe couldn't tell the difference between a Garand and a Win 70 or Rem 700... But they know John Wayne and an AK. End of Story IMO.
